Can anyone see Sports Media Money is Killing College Football?

The only Bowl Game I've seen without empty seats was the Rose Bowl. The NC game will always be sold out due to corporate money and NC fan support. They've tried to hide the empty seats but the empty seats are there. The bowl organizers are rolling in the cash from ticket and hotel money. I'm sure it's more corrupt than ever.
I miss all the big games on New Years Eve and Day. Now that they are moving all the big games away from New Years for a "one game a night" running a week after New Years they must get viewers during prime time so they can charge high dollar advertising rates.
So now fans are getting screwed with non holiday travel times, high ticket outlet prices and extremely high hotel rates. It's no surprise fans are staying home in droves.
Now all the media money is screwing up conferences and killing decades long rivalries. Just look at the Texas/Texas A&M Rivalry, money and greed killed the rivalry game. Same for OU/Nebraska, WVU/Pittsburgh and many others to come.
Now the college football playoff is coming to give teams who can't win their conference a chance to win the NC game. Again, money driving this as well. And you won't see any of the media talking about this since they all work for and get paid by the media that is killing the game.

I couldn't agree more. The bowls are holding the sport hostage.
Playoff games need to be at the favored school's home stadium. That way there is incentive to win (home field advantage) just like in the NFL, and the schools make all the money (or conferences, in the case of the SEC).
Bowl games are absolute leeches. They throw one game a year, and most don't even do that well.

The conferences will be fricking the bowl corporations over eventually. Once they control the playoff, they can eliminate middle men at bowl games.

Week night bowl games hurt, too. It'll be interesting to see the Cotton Bowl's turnout.

Oh yeah. It's a big corrupt circus.
I've definitely become a big proponent of minor league professional football in recent years.
The colleges will fight tooth & nail against it, of course, but it would be a very big benefit to society.

The sooner the better. The bowls have had too much sway over this sport for too long. Who are they anyways?

I made a post about this on New Years day. Most of your big bowl games arent even on New Years Day anymore, which is complete BS.
The best thing about New Years was always sitting on the couch all day long, watching QUALITY football from mid morning all the way until bed time. Now you have 5 or 6 games all day long, and only 2 of them are decent bowls, The Rose Bowl Game and The Orange Bowl. They have all the other games spread out over the week before and the week after so they can get all the primetime viewership.
I hate this shite and so does everyone else I know. This kind of BS is ruining the tradition of college football. Plain and simple.

It's unsustainable.
Ticket prices, advertising, bowl games, tv revenue.
Not to mention the way athletic departments are funded and fund their sports.
It will implode eventually and we'll he back to regional conferences.

Not to mention the cost of attending your own schools home games has significantly risen as well. From increased donations and ticket prices to increased parking fees.
Texas A&M charged $100 for a LSU home game this past year.
I went to BCS National Champ game in 2003 for $60 a ticket for a lower level endzone ticket. The cost now would be tripled.

I'm mainly talking about Texas/ESPN power/money grab. That is the root of the demise of the UT/A&M rivalry game in my estimation.

Will be interesting to see how it all explodes when the playoff comes. The bowls are a racket, ridiculous, and I haven't figured out why the schools never tried to take the profit for themselves.

Media is dictating too much. And conferences are drunk with power and making up the new format for college football as they go.

Agree. Just pointing out that even given all the greed and money grabbing, the game still could have been on had texas not been embarrassed at being out-maneuvered by their perceived "little brother" in the conference realignment game.
I concur with the larger point you're making, however

the amount of money these bowl execs get is mind boggling...and they literally do nothing except grease other palms
its sad because we all still watch and fans still go, but there will be a "tipping point" eventually

It's all just more noise that takes away from the game. I feel like TV contracts and the ability for everyone to sit and watch games at home makes for a shite ton of ugly bad fans.
