they're simply not blocking out.
I'm afraid this is becoming a symptom of horrible high school coaching.

This may be one of the biggest disadvantages of playing the motion. Everyone has got to be able to play.
Yeah, that was a huge problem with Pel, we would have 3 guys watching, Fortson dribbling the ball and Clarke running circles, that was our offense.
Mike is good at getting the guys to play as a team, really hard this day and age. Nolan and Mike have been great about having walk-ons come off the bench and contribute, Gulley and Haydar have been doing a great job the last few weeks, both walk-ons.

We can thank the NBA for this crap.
I do not even watch the NBA any more, its just horrible.

It's this right here that makes it so hard to defend. If a coach could ever get a player to understand the better you screen the more points you score maybe things wouldn't be so hard. Players nowadays just want to score and score right away. They don't want to have to screen to score. I mean I was watching the Mizzou and Illni game and noticed that Illinois runs a type of motion (or so I thought) but the players just half assed screened. It's just laziness.
Yeah, its only going to get worse, I'm afraid. Maybe if a mid-major wins a national championship playing team ball it will wake up some teams, or getting put out by 15 seeds and what not, probably not all they see is gettin theirs and dollar signs in the NBA...

FIFY
When you're too busy running a highlight reel, you're not teaching much of anything.

Seriously though, I wish we ran an offense. We walk an offense, and it's a shitty one.

One of our larger issues this season has been them getting out-rebounded. Just off the top of my head UK has Harrow (6'2"), Mays (6'2"), Goodwin (6'5"), Poythress (6'7"), Wiltjer (6'10"), Noel (6'10"), and WCS (7'0") regularly on the floor. They shouldn't be out rebounded on most nights but they are because they're simply not blocking out.
Poor fundamentals because these guys never have had too use proper technique and fundamentals, they have always been the best talent on the court at any given time and that was enough to be the best on the court.
That plus having a new team every one to two years is the problem with Cal's one and done recruiting, IMO.
Not a knock, flame or whatever, just an observation.

It only scares me how bad it's getting. I'm in school right now for coaching (basketball obviously).
Might have to just try and get on at a smaller school.

Is it just a lack of shooters for Alabama?
ETA: Looks like you all can't rebound for shite right now either. Ouch.

Never really watched the Princeton. Could you possibly give a brief synopsis.
The Princeton offense I remember from watching it ran at Princeton including a bunch of up screens and back door cuts, over and over and over and what do ya know wide open lay up.
Some how it has been altered to a shitastic stand around look at me show like the lakers use now.

You aren't lying. When will the NCAA finally wake up and do something about AAU?
I had a coach from UNA tell me to get involved with AAU for coaching. I laughed.

False. Mike Anderson does not run any kind of offense
Sure he does. It's called jack it up as many times as you can and hopefully we make more than you at the end of the day.

Lack of bigs who can run, shoot, pass, rebound, or defend. Literally no one on our roster over 6'6" would even start for a SWAC team.

My only knock against this knock is that he's been able to get everyone else who has been at UK to buy into a defensively philosophy (and rebound well) this year being the exception so far. It's hard to call it a problem when your results have been Elite Eight, Final Four, and a National Championship.
I don't think it's any coincidence this team has struggled a bit without Harrow there consistently at PG. Those two weeks without him when they're putting a lot of work in absolutely hurt their development.

Pretty much.
It's a fun thing to watch when it's run correctly though.

It's mainly a problem in that it hurts the level of play in college basketball. Honestly I think basketball should go convert the way baseball does. If a player wants to go pro out of high school let him go. If not he has to wait till his junior year to declare. It completely erases this one and done bullshite.

Yeah, they were saying Dantoni (or however you spell it) runs the Princeton offense for the Lakers on Sportscenter, Pete Carril is probably most famous for this offense, altough the offense has hung around Princeton, John Thompson III has used it at Georgetown, Floyd at USC, Carmody at Princton and Northwestern. The offense is like motion and works based off constant moving and screening, there is no stand around one on one in it like you see in the NBA...
Bo Ryan's Swing offense he uses at Wisconsin is based off the Princeton offense.

Personally, I think the problem isn't the one and done. College Basketball has had issues pre-one and done. I think the lack of fundamentals taught in high school/AAU ball is the bigger culprit effecting the level of play in college basketball. Or even the current transfer loopholes that have allowed a significant number of transfers across the landscape in recent years.
I just find it interesting that no one was complaining about these things until it started happening at Kentucky (and resulting in a high level of play at Kentucky that hung banners). There was no outcry with Texas and Durant, Oden and Ohio State, and so on.
