First of all, my prediction is that bama wins by at least 14 against ND..

so don't think I'm calling for an upset or anything, because I'm not. Bama will roll. However, I heard somebody say something about 2002 ohio state the other day and it got me thinking how this is a pretty darn similar situation if you think about it.
In 2002, Miami was the reigning national champ and cruised their way back into the national title game. Ohio State did NOT look very good all year, but they just kept on winning ugly. A last minute long bomb TD to beat a bad purdue team, an OT win against a bad illinois team, etc. They had a gritty defense and JUST enough offense to keep squeaking out wins. Nobody gave them much of a chance against mighty miami, but they just kept hanging around and ended up winning. Of course, McGahee getting injured helped, but still.
Now this year. Even though bama does have a loss, they've still arguably looked like the best team in the country all year and are the defending champs. Winning with a tenacious defense and enough offense. Then there's notre dame, who is undefeated but with some ugly wins. Squeakers against..BYU and Pitt? Yikes. Nobody is giving them much of a shot, but who knows..stranger things have happened. Just thought it was kind of an interesting parallel.

Ohio State cheated to beat Miami. True story.

Would love to crush irish but a 1pt win would b great.

Yeah, that PI call was questionable. Also, they really should've lost that illinois game. I used to tape every game back in those days, and I think that was on the same day as the UGA/AU game. I remember rewatching the UGA game (many times, great win) and seeing the highlights of that OSU/illinois game and it was clear that the referees absolutely blew a call to give OSU the win.

I think Bama wins but ND covers. However, my opinion means nothing. Cheers.

I think the difference is discipline and focus.

Very good comparison. If ND gets all of the breaks with injuries and bad calls like OSU did, then maybe, just maybe, they could pull the upset as well.
I just don't see it, but then again I didn't see OSU beating Miami or Bama beating Miami back in '92 either.

What about Notre Dame this year suggests otherwise?

I have thought about that game several times. I think the two teams are in very similar situations. Alabama APPEARS to be head and shoulders above the Irish, and they have struggled against weak opponents and pulled games out of their arse, just like 02 Buckeyes.
Sort of makes me a little nervous, but I'd rather have our team than theirs. "Tis not always that the race is to the swift, nor the battle to the strong....but that's the way to bet."

Miami was very overrated in 1992. They had close wins against Arizona, FSU, Penn State, WVU and Syracuse and looked bad offensively in several of those games. I was surprised how well Bama ran the ball, but not that Bama shut their offense down.

Definitely. To their credit, that OSU team did at least have Clarett and a legit WR threat. ND just doesn't seem all that scary.
But I don't think anybody gave OSU much of a shot against miami either. Anyone know what the spread was on that game?

Alabama will win going away...by 14-21 points depending on how many turnovers they have.
Notre Dame HAS NOT seen anything close to the OL they will see vs BAMA. ND's vaunted front seven will be gassed by the mid-3rd Qtr if not before. I look for both Lacey and Yeldon to go over 100 yards as they did against UGA
Notre Dame's OL hasn't seen a front seven as athletic and big as they'll get from BAMA. ND will be forced into many 3rd and longs and their QB will pay the price for it. He'll be lucky to finish the game.
What we're getting ready to see is another reminder of how big the gap is between the top tier of the SEC and the rest of college football.
I believe Bama takes a 31-6 lead into the 4th quarter and ND scores a meaningless TD late against the Bama scrubs.
Final score: Bama 31 Notre Dame 13

Alabama offense should roll ND defense, I think Bama will score at ease.

That PI call was unbelievable

Alabama is the superior team, I believe, but they will still have to earn it. Notre Dame is not the team of patsies people seem to think.

The thing about this game is that I dont see any blatantly botched calls bc of who these teams are. I don't think the refs are going to play favorites for either side.

Yeah, that bs PI call cost me my bowl pick 'em that year. Still stings.
