I was about to post this same question. I knew that after this season, there would be people interested in KK and once TT left, obviously the Tech Tards would come calling.
Hopefully as hot as A&M is now, we shouldn't have any problems finding a top shelf replacement.
ETA: JFF just questioned the possibility of Chad Morris. A&M alum and obviously just lost out to KK for the Tech job.
Ouch! Nevermind, salary and buyout are way too much.

I think Sumlin calls the plays against OU, easiest thing for continuity. I also think Sumlin uses the next couple weeks as an "interview" of sorts amongst the assistants (esp McKinney) to see who might be a solid replacement. Personally I would be a bit surprised if he didn't promote one of them as he has some really established guys and McKinney already turned down the OC job at UH to come with him. If he goes outside though he will have NO trouble getting who he wants. Who doesn't want to come to the SEC and make bucks coaching a Heisman winner on the hottest team in the country that is recruiting lights out? Oh, and you get to coach for a guy who has 3 Coordinators in less than 4 years that have HC jobs, 2 at the AQ level.
If he goes that route then he just needs to find an assistant replacement. Someone I heard mentioned is going after George Whitfield which would be a home run imo as a QB coach, not sure if that interests him though or if he likes doing his thing in California. Otherwise you just go get another stud recruiter/coach that fits in where your gaps are to replace whomever is promoted.
Morris seems like a reach. Crazy expensive and even if you get him he is likely gone soon himself to go be HC somewhere. Maybe not though, don't know how deep the Aggie ties are with him. He would have to be pushing for it. I'd say Hal Mumme or the Colorado School of Mines guys are just as likely in the "pie in the sky" discussion.

Morris is a no go. He has a headcoach esk buyout at 6M. From what I've heard we're leaning after Noel Mazzone at UCLA. He's coached pretty much every offense ever created and has a resume longer than my dick but he has history with sumlin. I think this would be a wrong move as he doesn't seem to fit the young culture we have going at the moment. My choice would be to lure Shannon Dawson away from WVU. He's young and can field an offense like no other. He brought SFA from 0-12 to FCS playoff berths in a year and just set an offensive yardage record at WVU. His only question mark is recruiting as he has no "big gets" yet. It would stand to reason that after coaching geno smith to where he is, recruiting would be no problem.

No idea. It's hard to understand what a man is saying when he's got a dick in his mouth.

Bingo. Me too. Him or the QB coach there, Jake Spavital. Both have pure Air Raid lineage.
I have a family member who coached with Dawson at SFA and he's who brought his name up with me.
What people on TexAgs don't get, among many other things, is that we're not going to get just any "spread" coach or "wide-open offense" coach. Whoever it is is going to be someone from the Air Raid tree. That's what we run now. That's what Sumlin wants to keep doing. The Air Raid is a very specific philosophy, with a very specific handful of plays called in a very specific way with certain reads and mentality. It's not interchngeale with other spead offenses, it's not a "general idea" or name it is THE Air Raid. Different coaches put their own spin on it, and it has evolved, but the basic nuts and bolts are the same and the essential philosphy is the same and it's different than the Oregon spread, or Urban's spread. It's its own thing, and it has to be run by an acolyte of the system - someone who came up as a GA under a coach who ran/runs it.
Now, the good thing is, once you get it, you get it. Sumlin's next hire will be the next Kingsbury, I don't think there was anything special about him. This family member who knows Dawson from his SFA days, when I watch games with him, he can call all the signals and can predict the next plays, who the ball's most likely going to, etc. Guys who know the Air Raid just know it. It's not complicated, but you have to be baptized in it first - and that's who Sumlin's going to go for.

Sumlin: RBs coach McKinney will call plays in Cotton
quote:
Sumlin said Wednesday that running backs coach Clarence McKinney will call the offense against the Sooners, although it will be a collaborative effort in place of Kingsbury, the new Texas Tech head coach.
McKinney is a former Yates head coach (and Yates graduate) who’s been with Sumlin since 2008, Sumlin’s first year with the Houston Cougars. In addition, A&M receivers coach David Beaty will work with the quarterbacks, Sumlin said on a teleconference with OU coach Bob Stoops this morning.

I didn't realize the principle of apostolic ascension applied here.

RB coach calling the plays & OU having a terrible run defense.

Judging by what Clemson's offense is doing to LSU I ssy Chad Morris is worth whatever his buyout is

His buyout is $5 million. Not gonna happen.
