Keep in mind that Neyland didn't show up for bowl games and most of the team didn't either. Bowl games didn't have much weight back then.

I think Alabama's 2009 team is the strongest and most well rounded team of the modern era SEC (post 1980). The talent they had on the roster was staggering in retrospect.

Because if they did, General Neyland doesn't lose them.

1938-1940 regular season record 30-0. They outscored their opponents 823-42. Wow.
