Yet people want a coach that's been in mid major conferences and dominated?

It doesn't make sense to me how one minute someone can talk down on what Gundy has done, but talk up Petersen/Patterson for what they have done against much lesser competition. Never mind the fact that Pettersen has absolutely no recruiting ties to any state in the southeast or that Patterson sits in DFW and has never gotten on an airplane to recruit.

Gundy is an great offense coach and would be a good hire at arkansas. Okie State has some serious recruiting issues with TX and OU so close, even the Hogs dip into OK and pull talent from them like Felix Jones. He would make either of our QBs look like RG3 but the D is the issue...

Maybe what's lost in translation here is how I view our program. I've followed Razorback football religiously since 93 and there isn't a bone in my body that sees our program as anything more than 2nd tier. It's the hard truth of who we are in the grand scheme of things.

We are NOT a Top 10 or even Top 15 program. If we want to be, we have to have a Petrino-type coach that can overcome all the built in disadvantages of being a school in a tiny, poor, irrelevant state that puts out no more half a dozen HS kids worth two craps every year.

Gundy and 90% of the coaches out there do not have what it takes to make us a top program. It will take a monster hire.

If we hire a monster, we can watch the BCS show and see our name again. If we hire a 'good' coach like Gundy, we will be the same ole' Arkansas we have always been.

There's your daily dose of truth.

I just can't make myself see Gundy as on par with Petrino.

Come on. Be serious. If I told you we would have Gundy to replace Petrino back in April, you would have been ok with that?

I think a season of Johnelle has lowered many expectations as to what we need.

You are right, Gundy has more starting QBs in the NFL as well as WRs.

Petrino was

0-4 against Bama
0-2 against Florida
1-1 against UGA
2-2 against LSU
2-2 against Ole Miss
0-1 against Kentucky
0-1 against Texas

Now that I think about about it, it isn't fair to Gundy to compare Petrino to him.

I'll firmly stand by my belief that it takes an A+ coach for Arkansas to be a consistent winner.

But in the case that we do end up with Gundy, I'll tap the brakes on judging him for a bit. Maybe I'm just way out of touch with who he is.

Consider me underwhelmed until proven wrong though.

He isn't as far from Petrino as you think as a coach, he is actually better in regards to recruiting and developing NFL caliber WR talent.

His QBs track record has been more consistent, but it has also been longer mainly because he has been in one place to develop.

His offensive lines have been consistently better than Petrino's, think of like how good Nutt's were at run blocking but good like that at pass protection as well.

He is like Petrino in that Long will have to have the budget available to allow him to hire a high caliber DC. The stats on his defense are bit misleading as far as PPG as the SEC doesn't have the same caliber of scoring offenses week in and out, but his defenses have been great in producing turn overs.

I'd enjoy that. None of us know what the coaches themselves want in their lives.

Gundy has his side of the ball on lock down. I'd like to see a defensive guru over there locking horns with him in practice, pushing Gundy and Gundy pushing him, which in turn should yield a fine football team.
