It may be too difficult for him to count to 14. Inability to perform menial tasks can cause anger in some individuals.

Gotta use winning percentage as a metric to compare the two eras.

Interestingly enough, Bama played 8 conference games in 1972 and 1973. There was a lot of variability in the conference schedule back then. Some years they played 6 games. Some years they played 7. And some years they played 8.

I posted the other day that Spurrier is the only coach I know of (other than Bear Bryant) in the post-integration era to have 2 or fewer conference losses each season over a 12 year period (Spurrier's entire tenure at Florida).

I'm sure if Saban stays at Bama another 7 years he might do the same.

Florida build a statue for Spurrier yet?

They put the plaque on the building instead.

Did they do plaques? I forgot. I just remember they and Au came out with their announcements about the same time, and right after their bases lol'd about Saban's statue announcement.

You can't claim a title from 1925 using a poll created 5 years later. Come on.

Notre Dame does this for their 3 claimed national titles from the pre AP poll era.

Also, USC, Minnesota, and Michigan do it

You are correct. I did not know that...

"I drive by his statue every day," said Driskel, referring to Spurrier's statue that sits just outside the Swamp alongside the statues of the Gators' other two Heisman Trophy winners, Danny Wuerffel and Tim Tebow.

Same article...

"Being an SEC guy and growing up in this part of the country and being a huge fan of the Southeastern Conference, there are really two coaches that come to the forefront of your mind as far as what they have done for this league, and that would be Bear Bryant and Steve Spurrier," said Muschamp, who owns a deep respect for Spurrier and what he has meant to Florida.

Boom. Muschamp, that is.

I thought they did. It quietened 2 fanbases about Saban's statue when they decided to do their statues.

English, Hunter, English!

Yeah, the reason I didn't know about Florida's statues is because we LSU fans don't constantly tease Florida fans about their statues.

Well, that and Spurrier isn't usually the subject of short jokes.

I'm still a bit baffled by the bust that Au put up of Heisman though.

I mean, I get the inscription:

quote:

Auburn’s first coach of national renown, Heisman led Auburn from 1895-1899. On November 7, 1896, Heisman’s Tigers defeated Georgia Tech 45-0 in the first game ever played on the Auburn campus. His 1897 team was undefeated. Always an innovator, Heisman pioneered the center snap and the forward-pass, first known as “Heismans’s forward pass.” In 1971, Auburn University became the first school where Heisman coached to have a Heisman Trophy winner. Heiman was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1954.

But his undefeated season was a 2-0-1 season.

His 5 seasons were:

2-1
3-1
2-0-1
2-1
3-1-1

Not exactly bust worthy for accomplishments at the school. That'd be like Bama putting up a Bust or Statue of our new track coach, for his accomplishments at Arky.

Blah, blah, blah

It seems like all these Bama threads end up with one conclusion....defending all the national championship titles. That must get exhausting and tedious to rehash this all the time.

And I think that statue of Saban is really creepy..he's still alive for God sakes!

So does Auburn get to claim one for undefeated Sugar Bowl?

And before you say no, because their was a BCS system, you counted undefeated seasons where the rankings didn't have you #1. They obviously had someone else.

Not defending anything. I never get tired of enlightening those less educated.

I hear you, but do you know how many games Alabama played per season between 1895 and 1899?

Incidentally, Auburn beat Alabama 48-0 in 1895 as the Tide lost all 4 of their games that year.

So given the right context, Heisman's time at AU doesn't sound that bad, right?

Very few. I am pretty sure we don't have a bust for any coach with an overall record of 12-4-2 either though.

12-4-2.

I'm not gonna let you subtract that beatdown of Bama from his record.

Heisman was a special guy so I think it's just swell the Aubies honor him that way.

But if they ever honor Tuberville I'm gonna light that shite on fire and use a cigar to light the fuse.

Well, since LSU fans think more of SEC titles than national titles.

1971 - Alabama
1972 - Alabama
1973 - Alabama
1974 - Alabama
1975 - Alabama
1976 - Georgia, Kentucky*
1977 - Alabama
1978 - Alabama
1979 - Alabama

Don't think that will be topped anytime soon.
