Interesting Note About Nick Saban

Everybody knows when Bama is winning big and Saban is chewing a backup out for some blown play, the announcers chuckle and say that even when the game is out of reach he is still working on his players. But I've seen over the years, he isnt actually still doing it, he starts when we are winning big. If the game is close, he doesnt seem to yell at all, like Saturday night in Baton Rouge. Just find that interesting

his arse starts doing all the talking in close games.

He can work and be pissed towards being a perfectionist when we are kicking arse... but he thrives on opportunities to remind our teams that they are human and capable of playing down and/or losing. THAT is the moment he reassures them that he's "with" them and not against them, and that everything he's been saying is worth listening to. He is a masterful psychological coach, and he buys what he sells.
He's the best at the job. Thank God.

You're right. He was standing with his arms crossed and his hands tucked into his arms most of the game last night.
I think he does the yelling thing to create pressure on players when they would normally be inclined to relax, but doesn't do it when the game is creating the pressure.

Any good coach will do this.
Heck, I do this with my 6th grade basketball team. The chewing out and criticizing is not a confidence booster. When you're down or in a close game, you as the coach have to remain confident in your team.

Yeah. It's like he calms them when their emotions might go wild, but lights a fire under their butt when they could get lax. This to me means as much as the recruiting

Saban only chews out players who have not earned his confidence. He bitched at McCarron off and on from 2010 through the middle of last season. Now, he and McCarron "discuss" things. That is usually how it works. Nothing new.

I agree. It's just interesting that announcers seem blind to this

He was screaming his head off in the loss last year. This "calm" must be a new thing.
Personally, I think he thought he was beat last night and resigned himself to it. Then, Alabama comes back and wins. That is why McCarron was crying. They couldn't believe it.
But, Bama coming back is a testimony to how great of a coach he is and how he has instilled a resolve into his team. When it didn't seem like Bama could get a first down or stop LSU, they still found a way to win. Hats off to them. He is the best in the business, no doubt. And, Bama reflects that.
It stinks being #2, but we will just have to live with it right now. Oregon is moving up every year and if Bill Snyder were a bit younger, he would make a run. That man is amazing. Brian Kelly at Notre Dame has the right attitude as well. Right now, that is the cream of the crop and not just because of record.
Of course, you also have Florida under Muschamp and Ohio St. under Urban Meyer that will be in the discussion. A&M is going to be a force to be reckoned with as well. College football is a lot of fun right now, if you are a fan of the right teams. I am just glad that LSU is in the mix year in and year out.

It was probably some players acting stupidly. That will make him scream. I don't think it's new for him. He has been pretty calm in other close victories and losses as well

Yeah, I'm sure Saban was in shock that they overcame a gigantic 3 point deficit to win against a team that they had already beaten by twenty one points in the same calender year.

Everyone watching the game thought Alabama was beat last night. Saban had that look of resignation on his face, like he was about to say, "No mas."
But, his team that he has superbly coached and formed according to "the Process" did not quit and pulled a win from the jaws of defeat with a big stop on 3rd down and a drive for the ages. I am actually giving Saban and Alabama a compliment if you could realize it.

Good idea. We should probably wait until he proves himself though.

Good coaches don't yell at players because they are pissed at the players. Good coaches yell at players because they are pissed off at themselves for not preparing the player better. That is what Saban does. The worst thing you can do is yell at a player and not correct him and just be a douche (see will muschamp)
