Did any of you go to high school with someone....or know somebody.... that got a scholarship to play football for Georgia or some other D-1 school?
If so, what ever became of them?
I'm equally curious about the ones that didn't go on to play in the NFL as the few who may have.

Fred Gibson
Pretty sure he's back in Athens now. But he played a little for the Steelers and Dolphins, mostly on the scout team. After the NFL he played a couple of years of minor league basketball (shudder).

Freddie Gibson was my favorite UGA player in the early '00s. Not very motivated, but an incredible talent.

Was there a connection between him and Paul Johnson? If not, how in the hell does a Georgia boy get recruited by Hawaii 4,000 miles away?
Side-Question: Did the Hawaii players let him participate in that goofy pre-game line-dance they do? Or is it natives only?.......

Believe it or not I went to highschool with Kirby Smart. He played saftey for Bainbridge High School and I played linebacker/tight end. He graduated in 94. His older brother Karl and I graduated in 93. Both were big non drinkers but let me assure you that both, Karl especially, could pull in some serious arse. We used to knock it out.

Chris you will appreciate this one. I coached Julian Burnette back before I coached high school ball. He skipped practice one day so i made him play defensive tackle for the rest of the year. It was great. He was too fast to be blocked. Hated that Uga never recruited him.

ncdawg,
How many high school coaches are on this forum?
Btw, If you ever need a guest speaker or a person to cuss out kids, I will do it. :)

Moved on about three years ago. My wife had our third kid and decided I should be home to help raise them.
Julian was a great kid. Very, very smart and strong as an ox.
Not sure how many coaches/former coaches are on here. I think that there a few, but I'm not sure.

HS guys I played with who went on to D-1 schools. Two are lawyers, one owns a IT company, one lives in a half way house, one is in pretty high up with some F500 company. Oh, one other works for the State Department and he seems to be oversees a lot...

Went to law school with guys who played for UCLA, Washington, and Notre Dame.
I've got a buddy in the Secret Service, and he's met several former players on the various details.
