Spurrier has been fortunate to have dominant defenses at USCe

because his offense for the most part has been abysmal at south carolina. he has never gone undefeated. good recruiter, legend, pioneer...but overrated as actual coach

Actually, I think there's a point here (although I'm admittedly biased.)
Spurrier was on top of the football world at Florida, and his offense was incredibly innovative. But all of that resulted in one national title. He has done a fantastic job at South Carolina, but they have never been close to winning the conference, and they aren't this year either.
Spurrier is an OUTSTANDING coach. But if football ended today, he would be pretty close to Les Miles when measured by accomplishments. At one time, with all those SEC titles he was being compared to Bear Bryant, and at that point in his career, it looked like he may be that elite. But he's not - he's very very good, but his name won't be mentioned among the greats.

I don't think Spurrier is overrated by any means, but his offenses at South Carolina have been underwhelming.

We've had a curse at QB for some time now.

To discuss someone being "overrated" there has to be some common ground on where they think the subject is rated.
I still think of Spurrier with the adoration that he got from the football world in the late 90's, and still gets in some circles in Florida and South Carolina. Compared to that scale - that he's on the level of the great names in football - I think he's overrated.

He's done the unthinkable at South Carolina. But has yet to touch the unimaginable.
As upset as I am about the past two games, if you would have told me 10, hell 5 years ago that South Carolina was a consistent Top 25 team and constantly winning even just 8-10 games I would have called you a liar and a fool.

Big difference in recruiting at South Carolina and at Florida...
Big difference in QB play as well...
Shane Matthews, Terry Dean, Danny Weurffel, Doug Johnson (despite the headscratching decisions), Noah Brindise, Jessie Palmer, and Rex Grossman.
vs.
Blake Mitchell, Chris Smelley, Stephen Garcia, and Connor Shaw.
BIG difference. And I won't even start talking comparing the skill positional players. Lattimore is good, but is he as good as Fred Taylor and Terry Jackson? No...
Jacquez Green, Reidel Anthony, and Ike Hilliard? Travis Taylor, Reche Caldwell, Jabar Gaffney? Travis McGriff?
No comparison at all.
What Spurrier has done at South Carolina is amazing. Just look at their history before he got there, compared to now.

I know it's human nature to give your current coach all the credit for success, but do USCe fans give Lou any credit for building the program?
I am no expert on gamecock football, but it seems to me Lou Holtz took it from putrid to respectable, and then Spurrier took it from respectable to consistently top 25.

He did good in taking us a step up from just sucking to mediocrity. The problem with Lou was that a lot of his players that he recruited were just so uninterested in SC football. They got in trouble, cheated, quit, you name it.
Hell Lou's last game he EVER coached was a benches clearing brawl. I hated it for him because I love Lou. Still do.
