Had this conversation with a fellow Arkansas grad the other day. He said he's not really offended by it but said some of his friends are and really hate the term. I'm not from Arkansas and actually growing up in SWMO we used the term all the time to describe people who lived in Arkansas. Never meant it in a degrading way but apparently some really hate it?

Born, raised, and went to college in Arkansas. Never heard of someone that thought it was derogatory, I use it all the time.
R-Kansas gives me the rustles though.

My grandmother's name was Arkie. For real. Only thing is, she was born in Tennessee. Go figure.
So, no, I'm not offended.

Does not offend me but I wasn't born and raised here either.

Not a fan of it, personally.
Arky and Okie was a derogatory term given to the migrant workers in California during the dust bowl.
Arkies were held in a higher regard than Okies, FWIW.

and it will continue to remain that way.
Personally, I have no problem with Arky. I was born, raised, and went to college here as well.
ETA: As far as my Oklahoma fans, they refer to here as Ar-kansas and it makes me mad just as much as me calling them Oklahomos makes them mad. Oh well

I've never given a frick about any of that shite. I was born and raised in Arkansas. I love and dislike the state of Arkansas, much like I have loved and disliked everywhere I have been. I don't take offense to any derogatory insult hurled at Arkansas, because I honestly couldn't give a shite less about it.

Doesn't really rile me up, but I think it can have a negative connotation. When I used "Okie" growing up in FSM, it wasn't a compliment!

Grew up in Okie and now lives in Arky. Could give 2 squirts about either saying, but not much gets my goat.

This. My Grandma and her entire family all moved out there until she was in her teens then they moved back.
As for the term, it doesn't bother me. As Benny said, R-kansas does get to me at times though

Doesnt bother me in fact i encourage the stereotypes about arkansas. Just means less neighbors for me.

I am because of the context. I understand the historical issue, but most people using it likely do not. Nevertheless, often times people use it like aggy, so it is in a derogatory tone. I am less concerned if someone says something like "Arky's new coach is:" or "Arky fans, serious question." I would still prefer someone use Arkansas or Hogs though.

The term Arky itself dosen't bother me it's the context with which its used on the Rant that can get me pissy. Ar-Kansas makes me think of Miles being a jackass so I tend to be more amused than irritated.
