Our defensive numbers are not as impressive because our 4th and 5th string are not as good as Bama's. We've built big leads in most games, especially Troy & even AUB up 3 TD's and bring in our backups in the 4th, to only let teams rack up yards & get back in the game (somewhat). Of course the only game we played our starters 4 quarters was against UT. They couldn't pass for 150 & that's with them trailing all game. I bet UT throws for 250 Sat on Bama.

Saban, who is apparently mellowing as he ages, has opted to develop young players and has freely substituted on both sides of the ball.

John Fulton has 8 tackles, Geno Smith has 4 tackles, and both are backup CBs.

That's nice. Our backups Taveze Calhoun and Jamerson Love have 12 and 11 tackles. Our third string true frosh CB Cedric Jiles has 5.

Banks has 25 tackles in 6 games. He has 3 passes defended and 3 interceptions.

Milliner has 18 tackles in 5 games. He has 12 passes defended and 2 interceptions.

Did all Banks tackles come on running plays, or has he made some tackels after receivers have made a catch? Milliner appears to be defending more passes than are caught by opposing receivers, as some of those 18 tackles would have come from run support.

Majority of Banks tackles come from run support. Hardly a pass is ever thrown his way, usually it's a pick. Banks has 15 career ints and I know of atleast 3 pick 6's.

The Troy game was 23 to 14 going into the 4th, which is not a big lead. UT was never trailing by 20 points in that game so there was no need to start throwing at will until the final mins.

UT very well could throw 250 yards on us, because they damn sure will not run for over 200 on us like they did Miss St.

Right, we started subbing in the 3rd quarter with our backups when it was 23-7. It almost bit us in the arse. UT was getting some good numbers running the ball yes, but we took away their strength and knew they were not going to be able to beat us with the run. We tend to play a bend but don't break style.

People are throwing at Banks, he has 3 passes defended and 3 interceptions. Or are you claiming that he is so good his interceptions and pass breakups have come against receivers he was not defending? LOL
If Banks is so good, why is he still playing CFB as a senior?

Milliner will be a first round pick as a junior. I (along with a consensus of draft experts) believe he will be taken ahead of Banks.

THIS.

Banks is good. Real good. But, he wouldn't have been 1st round as a true junior like Kirkpatrick and Milliner. He needed an extra year. DreK and DMill are on another level.

Why did Tebow, Landry Jones, DJ Fluker, Andrew Luck, Peyton Manning, Barrett Jones, etc. stay to play college football as a senior? Perhaps college is more than just a football factory? Perhaps some players play for more than just money? Perhaps some players want to get a degree and do something with their lives after they leave college?

Maybe like he said, "he felt it could be a special season, and you only get to experience college once" plus I think he wanted to go after the career INT recorder holder at Miss State, which is 16 and an outside shot for the NCAA career holder w/ 20.

Seems really close in all the mock draft right now & is subject to change, like it already has some. Woudln't surprise me after JB's performance this past weekend, he moves up the board.

You're right.

If Milner returns for his senior year he could possibly be as good as Banks.

Stats prove otherwise, but I don't own a crystal ball.

This and Banks said he "wanted his degree from State that he wanted something AFTER football, he actually wants to be in law enforement he wants to be a highway patrol officer.

I understand you guys play a conservative defense. I had a similar discussion with some other Miss State fans.

But even in a conservative defense the objective is to stop the opposing offense. You might not load the box to stop the run, but you still have 7 in the box who job is to stop the run. UT running for 200 yards was not simply we allowed them to do it to stop them from passing. There had to be a weakness in the front 7 in order for them to accomplish that.

I'm not saying you're wrong or that your defense is garbage. I'm saying even in a conservative defense you're still trying to stop the opposing offense. You're not necessarily attack the opposing offense, but you are certainly not sitting back and giving them yards.

Well if Banks tried to go out last year he would of been drafted no higher than 2nd round.

There were 3 elite level CB's in the first round for sure and Gilmore jumped in there as well.

It pains me to say this, but Banks is a great corner. I dislike him very much, but looking at this objectively, I think he has shown more this year than Milner. However, Milner continues to have a higher ceiling per the draft pundits.

Or there's always the recently moved to corner, Charles Sawyer

Would Milliner have been drafted higher then 2nd round last year if he declared? How does Banks being worse that Kirk/Claiborn/Gilmore last year make him worse than Milliner this year? Did Banks stay the same while Milliner progressed? If Larry Fitzgerald has 1500 yards and 18 TD's this year and Calvin Johnson has 1000 yards and 12 TD's are people going to say "Calvin Johnson had a better season because he's younger."?
