We all know about the moped incident, but I've heard from a few people connected w/ the team that he is pretty crazy and careless. I think he will be arrested again, whether MIP or DUI or whatever and I doubt we ever see the kid play.

Also just to add to this, if Berk is our starter once Franklin is gone, doesn't that leave only one year of eligibility for Mauk? Why would he stick around if that seems like it will be the case?

Mauk is RS so he will be a FR next year while berk will be a JR

Berk is a RS Sophomore next year. Mauk will be a RS Freshman.

Fratty Mauk once jumped over 10 DGs on his moped, while double fisting beers.

The legend begins.

But to answer your question - who is to say he couldn't eventually earn the starting spot over Berk? I've heard the kid is impressive on the field.

Because there have never been any crazy college kids that played football, and never got in any trouble.

I hope Mauk stays and gets an opportunity to play. He may have made some poor choices, but he's a kid.

For some reason, I have a good feeling about him as a competitor. Perhaps we need a QB who is a little daring and crazy.

Killz I like the way you are thinking here, hopefully he can bottle up that crazy streak a little and use it to crush SEC opponents!

I'd rather have a QB who is willing to take risks (ie. throwing downfield) then a QB who tells the media that he reluctant to throw downfield, he's hurt, and he's nervous to take a hit.

I'll take a sinner over a saint all day long on the football field.

I think he's bookended by better qbs. Berks and Hosick.. don't think he'll ever be the main guy.

I thought Hosick was going to wind up being a TE. Word spreading around is that there were questions about his skill transferring to college.

I went and watched him at the Elite 11 our here, wasn't super impressed and looks pretty short. I think they have him at 6'1", but I'd be really surprised if he was over 6.

ETA: I never got that close at the Elite 11 thing, I could be wrong, but he looks like a shorty.

Mauk is better than Hosick. Hosick has unrivaled motivation and drive, but doesn't have the skills set of Mauk

Mauk and Hosick are the same height.

A 6'1 or 6'2 guy is not going to be made into a TE, imo.

Hosick reminds me a lot of Johnny Manziel.. from what I've seen.

You don't know that. Just as I'm not sure about it either..

What we do know is Mauk threw on 4 downs in HS. His team never punted and rarely ran the ball, which is why he broke records. I liked that Hosick ranked #1 on the shuttle time for qbs.. I like that more than the 40 time for qbs.. I think he has a lot of physical potential and seems miles ahead of Mauk between the ears.

We have a hard enough time deciding between JF and CB, and we have a lot more to compare the two. No point in deciding yet between Hosick and Mauk.. just my feeling that its doubtful Mauk ever has a career as our starting qb.

Yes he will get to play. We have seen it already, injuries. We were lucky with Daniels and Gabbert is a tough cookie also. The Suh hit would have left a normal QB out for the year. Gabbert hung in there and played the whole year.
