The lack of a running game versus Auburn. LSU fans.

Was it really just improved, inspired defensive football on their part. Don't give me the 8 man front stuff because you guys see that every week, so do we. Or was it a subpar game from the OL? Any worries or are you like me and think this was just your version of 09 UT?

I wish I could believe it was like '09 vs Tennessee. I think the o-line is sub par and I am worried about playing better football teams. Maybe it was just a bad game, and I hope that it was. I just am not to anxious about the lack of progress the wide outs and o-line have made.

Auburn played inspired D.
Sorry, but it was the 8 man front and dropping a safety most of the time.
We (Bama) don't actually see that every week on every play. We did for UT last year however, and the game was tied 6-6 at halftime. Then we aired it out in the 2nd half, and the game blew wide open.
Les was unwilling to fully rely on Mett throwing despite Auburn daring him to. And you can't blame him, in his first SEC road game in front of a hostile crowd and he wasn't sharp.
In summation it was a combination of:
Auburn playing inspired D
A very hostile crowd
Exposed weaknesses of LSU's line against heavy run blitz, esp at the tackle positions
Unwillingness to open it up with Mett

Seeing as Mett didn't have half a second to pass and our wide outs have a bad case of the drops, it makes sense why Les relied on the running game.

We rushed for over 180 yards

Our rushing D did step up. They gashed us on a few big inside runs but overall, our tackles played a good game and Holland actually played decent in the middle..

Auburn had nine in the box several times that I saw and was stunting and run blitzing. If we nnehad connected on a couple long passes it would have loosened the running game up. Plus this was almost do or die for Chiz.

I never saw him make any tackles.
The defensive line played well. I was really shocked that Les did not throw the ball down the field more.

we ran for nearly 200 yards and averaged over 4 a carry

My point is he realizes his seat is getting warm

We went for over 180. 4.1 ypc.
After mett fumbled two snaps, and it was obvious that our lt couldn't stop lemon ear, we played ball control. Run clock, punt, good luck against our d.
We used 6 blockers against 8-9 the rest of the game. We dropped two 60 yard passes. The plays were there to burn the stacked box, our guys just forgot vasoline should not go on their gloves.
Add to that au ran a base defense all night that you didn't see much of before. The previous teams had them in nickel and dime packages mostly.
Our lt was completely whiffing. Not just on pass pro, but on running plays, with 3 guys coming at him, he apparently forgot to at least block anyone.
Watch the game with an eye on 68. Bad times for him.

So he finally told the team to play hard since he may get fired.
Cool Story.

That was the pregame speech. Didn't you hear?

i guess no one is going to comment on how stupid this thread is consdering we had the same amount of rushing yards as Auburn had in total yards.

Most likely a troll thread considering 180 yds rushing on an SEC D is pretty fricking good.

Still below the LSU average. LSU could not take over the game on the ground with all those all world RB's. It's as much of a fault as Mett stinking it up.

Again, how is it Metts fault when he has no time to pass and wide outs who drop balls that hit them in their hands?
