Question about Arkansas - Bama game...

On the punt snap over the head that led to Bama's first points, did anyone say that Arkansas was attempting a fake punt on the play? I'm watching game on youtube and noticed that the entire team did a hard slant to the left on the snap, as if to lead block for a run by the punter or a screen pass.
Sorry if I'm asking a repetitive question that is german'ed to death, but I was watching the game when it happened live, not monitoring the board.

Only Reggie Herring would run a fake punt inside the 30 yard line.

I haven't heard that, and I highly doubt that was the case. Although with Johnelle at the helm I would be less surprised if I woke up in the morning with my head sewn to the carpet.

No, even Johnelle wouldn't do that

Speaking of this game...was there much controversy over the "foward progress" on the fumbled punt? I was at the game, so I'm not sure.

He was down either way before the ball came out.

I completely didn't understand where "forward progress" came into play, but he was in fact down.

Wouldn't had mattered, wasn't a fumble anyways.

Rugby kick maybe?
I wondered about that, but didn't know if he'd slide to the left, being a right footed kicker.

This is probably a case of some stupid blocking scheme Johnelle came up with to go along with his great punt covering long snapper who had never long snapped.
The crowd booed, and I think Venre/Gary were a bit surprised but there wasn't too much hooplah.

Damn you might be on to something there. Breeding doesn't really do the whole rugby style punt so I'm not sure that would be it. It does definitely look like something was up there because if they just blocked normally then he might have been able to pick up the ball and throw it away but since the blockers bailed Bama was on top of Breeding immediately. Good eye.

Wow, It does look like a fake is about to happen.

I'm wondering now if the long snapper was different because he was more adept at executing the assignment on the fake field goal.

Yeah that does look like they are getting ready for a fake. It also looks like it would have worked.

WAitttt a second. fricking CBS made that the play of the game?

Very well could have been. Also the rugby kick is quite plausible. I would like to think if JLS called a fake punt inside his own thirty in the rain with the backup long snapper, the team would have mutinied on him Varsity Blues style.

I don't think the rugby kick is the explanation. Breeding doesn't normally kick like that, and the placement on the field didn't require some kind of accurate placement to kill it near the goal line, AND Bama doesn't have a dangerous returner back there (at least not dangerous to the kicking team).
Also, it appears that Arkansas had the numbers on the edge, and assuming that Bama would play the coverage there wasn't a bad assumption. I think it might have worked if the snap wasn't high.
