Albeit Saban runs the D, KS still has talent IMO. Outside of Strong, KS is the best answer. IMO

I like him as a DC. Not so sure about as a HC.

It would be a great get for Arky, but I don't think Kirby would take a lower tier job like Arky. I think he is waiting for a real offer.

Saban's coaching tree doesn't look that bad anymore. Jimbo has Florida State ranked in the top 5 and they look like a legitimate national title contender. Will Muschamp has Florida improving every week and on the right track. Mark Dantonio has done a great job at Michigan State. Dooley's the only coach who's really been terrible but he's also the only coach that was never a coordinator under Saban.

When we interviewed Kirby we asked him what his plans were. He said he'd do the exactly what is being done at Bama. Run a 3-4, pass conservatively and run the football. Archie and crew didn't believe we could recruit the players needed to run a 3-4 and would be 2 to 3 years away to even have the players the correct size to run the 3-4. So we decided to go in a different direction. I see arky in a similiar situation. I think Strong is a better candidate given he's already succeeded as a head coach with lesser talent than what Bama has

I am not sure KS wants to coach against Saban in the West. IMO UT or SC would be a better fit for KS. Only because those programs seem to let the coach have the reins and KS after being under Saban for so long sees that's some of the reason Saban has so much success. All this JMHO.

I think we'd have an okay shot using the 3-4 had it been THIS year. We've got a lot of beef up front. Our DL is actually fairly decent. So I think that part of the equation would be okay. And I think we'd have 2 decent LB'ers. Finding a good mix at OLB would be tricky. But the secondary would have sucked no matter what. Overall, it might be a failed experiment to switch to a 3-4, but anything's better than what we've been doing.

Overall, I think Smart would be a solid hire. It wouldn't WOW anyone, and I think donations would take a hit, but if we can't get a top-tier guy for that $5MM/year and up range, I'm fine with hiring Kirby at $2-2.5/yr and letting him spend more on assistants/buying good players.

I would be thrilled to death if that happened and KS took over after Saban retires.

I don't see Saban leaving in the next 4-5 years but I would jump for joy if KS was a "coach in waiting" at Bama.

Saban is the defensive guru. Smart is just a puppet.

It would be a good promotion for him and I wouldn't be against it. Arkansas will be one of the, if not the most sought-after opening job this next off-season so he would be dumb to not at least entertain the idea. It's also already been acknowledged that we are willing to pay whatever it takes to get the best coach available, even if it means making them the highest-paid coach in the country.

would be a HUGE risk.

Kirby has never been a DC outside of Saban and we all know that's Saban's defense.

Really don't see Smart touching the Arkansas job.

Smart will probably be a head coach soon. I really doubt he wants to have to coach against Saban year in and year out at a program like Arkansas.

Arkansas never has had a solid recruiting base.

So I really don't see Saban's style of a 3-4 excelling in Fayetteville. Arkansas in the past has been able to get hard nosed RB's so it's not hard to say he could get the old smash mouth football back.
