A question regarding Coach Bryant's accomplishments and its duplicatication

1. Hopefully not a flamefest
2. This regards any school, not just UA.
3. The question: Will his accomplishments ever be duplicated? Anything is possible of course, but reasonable hope? Factors to consider: scholarship limitations, multiple TV outlets, huge sums of money that can be paid to top notch HC's.
I think this could happen at UF and UGA with lock down on in state talent and right HC. Also at UA due to its history (I don't think Saban though due to his age and not being there long enough). AU, UT, LSU is less likely I would think. Any thoughts from SecRant posters? Spurrier could have come closest from conference perspective but not national perspective.

No one is going to win 13 SEC titles and 6 national championships at one school in the SEC ever again.

Saban may win 6 NC.
Alabama does not enjoy the advantages it had when bear was at Alabama. As an example you have to win your bowl game to win a NC against a quaility opponent. Bears championship when he list the bowl game against ND would not count today. Scholarship limits and Alabama post Bryant NCAA issues also come in to play.

13 SEC championships may actually be harder to duplicate than the 6 NCs...perhaps even more true with the 4 team playoff on the horizon.

We may have seen the last of coaches staying 20 years plus at any school. Bear stands alone and probably always will

I don't think it will. Something that always gets glossed over with Bear is his success at Kentucky before Alabama. It's something no one else has been able to duplicate at Kentucky since then. That says a bit about how good he was IMO.

I think that everything equal, Saban is a better coach that Bear ever dreamed of being. Bear had the ability to sign anyone he wanted to keep them away from everyone else. If you gave Saban that ability each year then his accomplishments would dwarf Bear's.

Bear was a legend.
In this day and age we will never see his accomplishments duplicated. Saban may pull even with the Nattys but no way would he get 13 conference titles.

This. In all likelihood, Saban will win at least 5 total at Bama. One in 2013, maybe in coming up in 2012 if we beat LSU, and one more at least. If he doesn't retire after that, he may get 6 or 7, but he'll only win like 6 total SEC Titles, especially with the playoffs on the way. We won't even have to beat LSU as long as we can beat everyone else impressively. Then we just make it to the playoffs.

Shook his hand once in Tiger Stadium as kid. Remember just staring in awe

Not conference championships. I do however think Saban could come close to 6 NC's, at this point in time. You never know what the future holds and/or what obstacles will be in front. I think in a way, the 4 game playoff will be an advantage. Just since the BCS, if it had been in place, Bama would have been alive and had a chance for 2 more titles, than it already played for.
As far as Bear, he was a master in his own right. Those saying he had an unfair advantage, is basically sour grapes. Everyone had the same advantage. Bear, like Saban, was just better at utilizing what was available. I also think he'd be just as successful today. One thing that made him so successful, was his ability to adapt and change. He wasn't set in his ways as far as types of offenses he would run. He was about what would be the most successful and give him the better advantage. In some respects, I think that keeps him above Saban in some coaching aspects.
eta- also add in the fact, it is pretty rare for a coach to have the tenure at a school to achieve all that Bear did. That is probably the biggest factor and hurdle for any coach now.

No, too many rules in place versus when he coached. He cheated when cheating wasn't cool. No one will duplicate this. Unless of course you have Emmert on your payroll.

Unfortunate but probably true. This is the day of the mercenary. Not saying that's a bad thing, just that is the way things are.

Never met him but remember seeing him on his TV show when I was a kid staying with family in Mobile. I remember his show but none of the others, (Shug, Chollie Mac), FWIW.

3 more in 5 - 8 years is certainly doable (I combine UA and LSU since this is SEC coach specific). Of course if this comes at LSU's expense (again) I hope not.

If CLM can win conference 5 times total by 2020 I'm going to make him honorary Bear Jr...."The Shamrock" to the faithful

I guess that's the gap between Bryant and everyone else.
