I remember it clearly. The hurricane weakened and became a non issue, and Curry caught a lot of flack for postponing the game.

When he made the decision four days before gametime, though, it was the most intense hurricane ever recorded. Can't really fault him.

They awarded a pretty nifty carved hurricane trophy after the game, if I recall correctly.

The decision to postpone the game wasn't made until the afternoon of the day before the game. I was only an hour or so from College Station when I found out. Saturday was a cloudless day.

I'm a bit of a weather nerd and remember Hurricane Gilbert well. To say it "weakened" isnt exactly correct. Gilbert was a monster hurricane that broke the record for lowest barometric pressure up until that point in 1988. It was a strong Cat 5 and one of the largest hurricanes ever. It was forecast to curve into the Gulf and possibly hit Texas but never made the turn. In hindset, it was dumb of Curry not to wait an extra day to see that the storm wasn't heading for Texas. On the other hand, Hurricane Gilbert was a monster Cat 5 storm. Fortunately OT stayed south and hit the Yucatan and not Texas.
