That's your problem right there.

The vast majority of Austin media outlets have been dead arse wrong on literally almost every aspect of conference realignment since it began.

why would ND say no to the Big Ten but yes to the Big 12?

They wouldn't. Texas has tried throwing out this ND garbage before and it turned out there was absolutely nothing to it.

Where do you think Notre Dame will be playing football in 2015?

ACC
Big 10
Big 12
Big East
Independent
Pac 12
SEC

Most likely independent or Big 10. Hell, if the Big East can strengthen themselves between now and then, I would even put them before the Big 12.

The reason Notre Dame to the Big 12 makes sense versus the Big 10/12 is because the Big 12 doesn't split revenues equally. In essence Notre Dame could keep their TV money like the longhorn network. The reason Notre Dame is seriously considering it is for the other non revenue generating sports. They need a conference with some validity in those sports. All about the money.

ND would give up football before it joined the Big 12

I agree with this, if anything I would think big 10 or big east(since they are already a part of it), They like their independent status and they like keeping all the money

No. The Big 12 splits Tier 1 and 2 money equally...each school get to keep their Tier 3 rights(Longhorn Network).

Notre Dame would like the model of owning their Tier 3 rights instead of turning them over like they would have to do in the B1G because of the conference network. One of a few reasons some Domers would never wish to join that conference.

Texas has been recruiting them to the Big 12 for a number of years now.

Texas/big 12 have been wanting them for their NBC contract.

This. They will be free to negotiate for their own network and get their share of the conference tv revenue. I believe that their current deal with NBC runs thru 2015. At that point, who knows what the landscape will look like. Hard to imagine the Big East being a major conference anymore and the ACC has potential to breakup, so I doubt that those options will be attractive enough. Plus, playing in Texas at least twice a year can't hurt their recruiting.

No. The won't be able to fully join a conference in football until that NBC contract is complete..2016. That's why the current talk is moving their olympic sports from the Big East and fully integrate football in a few years.

This year ND actually has a hard schedule, first time in God knows how long. They need to go to the B1G, but I wish the SEC would get them so They would go 3-9 every year

People were saying the same thing about the Big 12 just months ago.

Things change, and now it has become clear that if any conference is going to completely disappear, it's probably going to be the ACC, which could only help the Big East.
