Delany: If you don't win your division, you can't win it all...

I actually liked Delany's recent proposal for a 4-team playoff using conference champions in the Top6 ( LINK), but today's headline certainly caught my eye...lol

Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany said Wednesday that any new format shouldn't include a team that doesn't win its division.
"I don't have a lot of regard for that team," Delany said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press. "I certainly wouldn't have as much regard for that team as I would for someone who played nine conference games in a tough conference and played a couple out-of-conference games on the road against really good opponents. If a poll doesn't honor those teams and they're conference champions, I do."
Alabama finished behind LSU in the SEC West last season, but the Crimson Tide got a spot in the Bowl Championship Series title game and beat the Tigers.

Like it would have made a difference for the BIG 10, only difference would have been their conference champ Wisky would've lost to Oregon in round 1 rather than in the Rose Bowl.

I bet he was rooting for that potential OSU-Michigan rematch back in '07.

Just a way to ensure there's only one SEC team in the 4 team playoff....it's bullshite.

Strawman arguement. First, I don't think there's a team in the country that plays in a tough conference, plays 9 conference games, and 2 tough OOC road games. Second, it's certainly possible for a team to play that record, not win its division, but still be deserving of being in the playoff

The two best teams were in the dome on Jan 9th... Too bad only one team showed up...

What will his argument be when Alabama skull fricks the top rated Big 10 team in next years season opener?

Yall do realize that his argument applies to Stanford as well as Bama. Bama would have been in because they were #2 in the final BCS standing(dec 4th). Stanford was 4 and Oregon was 5. Are yall saying Stanford should have been in over Oregon, even though Oregon skull fricked Stanford? Thats why his compromise is a good one.

The problem with Delaney's position is that once you start to use polls and computers to say the Big 10 champ is more worthy than the Big East champ, if those same polls and computers tell you that the SEC West runner up is more worthy than the Big 10 champ, then you have to honor that. Can't have it both ways.

Wouldn't affect big 10 because Wisconsin was 10. LINK
The argument that at larges shouldn't be in only refers to if the champ is in top 6. At which point they should get the edge because they did win their conference. Which isn't easy to do for the good conferences. Yes an at large should be in over a 24 ranked WVU, but not a #5 ranked Oregon

They are just mad because bama made it and Michigan did not make it when they were in the same spot.
