They'd drive two hours to st louis and pay all that gas money plus a ticket to get in when they could stay in Columbia and watch the game for under $10?

In Missouri's defense would you rather go to a Cardinals, Royals, or tiger game? I'm going to MLB before a crappy big 12 game.

That's a pretty shitty excuse. Rice, a school of about 3700 undergrad and located a short jog from Minute Maid Park, draws 3300 per game. TCU, about 10,000 undergrad and 15-20 minutes from the Ballpark at Arlington, draws over 4,000.

Those numbers are just paid attendance, but who really gives a frick about paid attendance outside of the revenue department? It's about actual people in the seats.

Well......... If they listed it by actual attendance nothing would change. LSU and Arkansas would still be 1 & 2.

Yes easily, I just don't understand the point of posting paid attendance to fans.

The only people that care about paid is the revenue department.

I doubt many fans give a shite about 11K tickets sold if the stadium is half empty at game time.

Reality is top attendance schools like LSU/Arkansas/South Carolina play in half empty stadiums on average.

Most Mizzou fans live at least 2 hours from the University, so driving all the way down there to see a midweek college baseball game is completely illogical. However, the locals in Columbia certainly don't do their part. It's just not a big deal at Mizzou; get over it.

They do the same thing for football games too though. I've been to several LSU games against worthless Non-con opponents and the announced crowd is 92,whatever and there are somewhere around 15-20,000 no shows.

Also, to compare this year's averages with last year's averages...

SEC Baseball Home Attendance
(Team, 2011 avg., 2012 avg.)
LS, 10534, 10601 (+)
OM, 8156, 7450 (-)
AR, 7932, 7873 (-)
SC, 7389, 7483 (+)
MS, 6103, 6143 (+)
AL, 3966, 3515 (-)
FL, 3753, 3930 (+)
AU, 2967, 2807 (-)
VU, 2682, 2380 (-)
GA, 2262, 1989 (-)
KY, 1649, 1839 (+)
TN, 1455, 1892 (+)

Keep in mind that average attendance tends to go up near the end of the year, especially for those teams that host regionals.

Paid attendance is the most easily measured. And since this is the $EC, thats the most important number, too.

Without SRO tickets, Alex Box holds a little over 9,000 so the average attendance of 6,000+ is way above half full.

The strength of in-state opponents of teams like Tulane make a huge impact on LSU's attendance. The local teams have not been too tough recently.

So, you are comparing attending figures between a school in a decently sized college town, versus two of the largest metros in the US?

Listed capacity is 10,326 for Alex Box, and listed capacities do not include standing room.

So you are way off on that one.

Oxford is tiny, yet they have good fan support.

Its a cultural thing. The SEC (in general) loves baseball compared to the rest of the nation.

You can't use the "pro-ball" argument with Mizzou. They don't have MLB or minors in their metro. Arkansas has minors 10 miles away, and isn't a big city metro, either.

A&M fits better from the perspective of baseball fan support. And yeah, some of it is due to weather.

9. Texas A&M

Glad to see they are behind the baseball program.

I failed to see Missouri on this list. Come on, even Stetson made the list at 47.
