Speaking about the new contract extension approved this afternoon, Alabama coach Nick Saban said he was contacted about other jobs in January.
But, with consultation with wife Terry, he decided to spend the rest of his career at Alabama.
Saban did not identify the outside interests who made inquiries.

I guess there was some validity to the Texas rumors after all.

Too afraid of his own fanbase to leave.

When asked what other schools called him about jobs; "It doesn't really matter. We wanted to be at Alabama"

This. No way Gump Nation would handle being processed with grace and dignity. there would be some crazy Updyke-ish characters going on a warpath

Saban: Contract extension today represents a commitment to stay at UA for rest of his career after "interest from others" in off-season.

The key word is we. Saban left the Dolphins for Bama because his wife couldn't stand living in Miami. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if Saban ends up coaching at Bama for 20 years like Bryant did.

he's always said 'we'. i think he will be there until he's ready to quit. pretty sure he'll be able to still rage on the sidelines without keeling over and dying 10 years from now if he wants.

Coach Bryant was 68 when he stepped down at Alabama. He coached at The Capstone for 25 years. I certainly don't see Coach Saban being in Tuscaloosa that long, but 10-15 years is more than likely. He's 60 now, and his drive and health could very well see him coach into his 70s.
