A repeal effort to overturn multiyear scholarships like the ones Auburn offered the 2012 recruiting class failed by a mere two votes in the NCAA vote Friday.

Opponents of the rule — Auburn and Florida are the only two SEC schools to offer multiyear deals — needed to get 207 of 330 votes, or 62.5 percent, to overturn the rule and force schools to go back to offering one-year renewable scholarships for the next cycle.

“I am pleased that student-athletes will continue to benefit from the ability of institutions to offer athletics aid for more than one year,” NCAA President Mark Emmert said, “but it’s clear that there are significant portions of the membership with legitimate concerns. As we continue to examine implementation of the rule, we want to work with the membership to address those concerns.”

The rule was passed in the fall, but enough schools raised formal objections that a possible repeal vote was needed. Objecting schools had argued that the tool could be a recruiting advantage for schools prepared to offer the security of a multiyear scholarship. In addition to Auburn and Florida, most of the schools in the Big Ten — including Wisconsin, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Nebraska and several others — began offering multiyear scholarships this season.

Then offer your OWN multi-year scholarships, you whiny bitches.

The less desirable programs have to sweeten the pot to get recruits.Even then the results were not very impressive. It will end up biting you boogs in the arse when your 4 year schollys cop an attitude and refuse to go all out in the weight room or on the field and you can't do a damn thing about it without fear of a law suit. This move will guarantee your mediocrity for years to come.

Nothing but a recruiting ploy by AU. But it won't work.

The shitty players will just be benched and will transfer anyway. The only ones that will stay are the ones that don't care if they play or not.

Saban is smart enough to point out to recruits that at AU, your teammates may be slackers. And that all you have to do at Bama is put in the effort and you're not going anywhere.

I like the rule.

Gives smaller schools a pitch.
