Bama football is much bigger and has a lot more money flowing into the athletic program that UK basketball.
I highly doubt it. Bama football probably does have more money flowing in because it's football. Duh.
But UK is in horse country and a shite ton of those people are boosters. You better believe there is more money in central KY/Louisville than in and around Tuscaloosa and/or Birmingham

I would think percentage wise, the amout of money put in vs the amount of revenue generated, UK basketball and Bama football would be about the same.

Mountain Brook (AL) is one of the richest per capita areas in the nation.
Florida needs to compare itself to Texas, USC---schools in huge pop. states. Nobody gives a flip about volleyball

That's what I'm saying. Of course any football program will be bringing in more money than any basketball program because football brings in WAY more revenue and will bring in more donations because it simply requires more money to run a football program.

I'm aware. I assure you the average income is nowhere near that of those involved in the horse industry.

I'll take your word for it. Doesn't mean squat in terms of college athletics, 'though. Heck, most Kentuckians will tell you Louisville is a midwest city.

So why did you bring Mountain Brook into the discussion?

For the record - and I'm not sure if this has been posted - but I believe Bama is the only school in the SEC that rank in the top 3 winningest programs in the SEC in all 3 major sports - Football, Baseball, and Basketball.
No National Championships to show for anything other than Football... but historically speaking, we have an elite athletic department compared to the rest of the SEC.

I'm from Louisville and I don't know anyone who believes that, from Louisville or elsewhere. It's nickname is "The Gateway to the South".

it was a response to $$$ in general.

Just from a quick search I found these Alabama teams/programs and their current national ranking in no particular order:
Football - #1 (won national title)
College baseball - #33 preseason
Softball - #2 (highest ranked SEC team)
Gymnastics - #6
Men's Golf - #8 (2nd highest ranked SEC team)
Women's Golf - #2 (highest ranked SEC team)
Men's Swimming - #17
Women's Tennis - #22
The basketball team while currently unranked was ranked as high as #11 earlier in the season. Although they've played poorly recently they still have a decent shot at earning an at large NCAA tourney bid.
I'd say all in all this seems to be a well rounded athletic program. If Alabama can get the basketball program back to the better than average level it was throughout the 70s, 80s, and most of the 90s and the baseball program to the level that Jim Wells routinely had it at then the athletic program will be a Top 4 SEC athletic program which is all you can really ask for.

Exactly. I'll take our basketball program (hopefully with another NC soon), occasional success in football, and basically being irrelevant in baseball over Arky's "always the bridesmaid never the bride" approach. I'd rather be the best at something than pretty good at everything.

Since they started keeping Director's Cup standings in 1992 or 1993, Alabama has never finished ahead of Tennessee. Alabama is usually about 5th or 6th overall in the SEC. Florida is usually 1st followed by UGA, Tennessee, and LSU who flip flop based on the year.

Exactly. I think (Eventhough baseball is a positive for LSU) there's really only 2 sports that people care about year round, Arkansas just happens to be good at a few of the ones that people only read about on their university's website.

Alabama finished 3rd last year behind Florida and Georgia according to a Florida poster on page 4 so that's not entirely true. Most year that's the case because there is equal weight to all the sports and Alabama has sucked complete a## in women's basketball, men's and women's track and field, women's swimming, and men's tennis all of which are sports that most SEC schools are really good at. Alabama is usually great at 1 of the big 3, solid in the other 2 Big 3 sports, great in 2 or 3 spring sports, and absolutely horrible in all the other sports. It all adds up to average at best Sears Cup numbers. Last year, we happened to be really good in more sports than normal.

If you want to talk in terms of conference championships:
Florida - 180
Kentucky - 135
Georgia - 108
Tennessee - 96
LSU - 76
Alabama - 74
Auburn - 53
Mississippi State - 27
Ole Miss - 21
Vanderbilt - 23
South Carolina - 10
Arkansas - 6
I don't think that includes every sport, just what I was able to find on wikipedia.
