Why can't Mississippi State win a national championship?

I did a quick search and all I found was that disc golf at MSU won a club sport national championship in 2009. Is that really it? 
Maybe I'm just not up to date on the rich, winning tradition of MSU athletics. Can some bulldog fan help me out here?

Been very close in baseball a few times but could never close and came close in basketball once (final 4)

Not butthurt at all. Congrats on the class! Vandy had a higher rated class than the Hogs according to the experts. Now, does that make me wanna trade Arkansas' program for Vanderbilt's? No, it does not. It sounds like the OP may have struck a nerve with a bulldog fan...

Well we are an ag school so that would make sense, would it not? Is that supposed to be an insult? We have some auto technology department that has won the last two years. We also win the meteorology thing sometimes. Moral victories.
