It's missing this guy in blue = :orko: *
In all seriousness it looks good. The suites are well placed (you don't want to eat up sideline seats), Big Bertha is BOOM! outta here, and I think we're talking chair back seats all over (happy fricking day). I like the addition of the murals up top and the ribbon board.
The best thing is they're maintaining what is essentially Rupp in terms of general aesthetics. New arenas are nice, but Rupp has a great atmosphere for basketball.
I'm interested in the effect it'll have on capacity. They're saying they're going to ADD 800 to 1,000 seats. Have no idea how that's going to happen since the suites will eat up seats. As well as the chair backs.
We're still talking a few years down the road, but it's going to be really nice. Especially with additional renovations to the property surrounding the area downtown.
Here's the article.
*I dig the gnome on the concourse.

Not 100% sure, and it's gonna take a long time to complete. They're going to do it in phases like MSG so the basketball team doesn't have to play somewhere else.
It's also gonna increase capacity by about 1,000 seats and all of the bleachers in the upper bowl will be replaced by actual seats.

That all said, UK's new president has me worried. I have a feeling this all gets shot down by him not wanting to dig deep in his pockets.
For those who don't know, UK's arena isn't on campus.
quote:
University of Kentucky President Eli Capilouto, in the audience for Gray's speech, said afterward that looking out for the core of UK's campus and its needs were his top priority. "But I continue to communicate with the mayor and Brent Rice (chairman of the arena district task force)," he said.

That interior rendering looks terrifying. Are the stands really that steep?

There's a good chance if you fall while sitting in the upper level of Rupp you're not going to hit until at least a few rows down.
The first time I ever went I was a rather terrified 12 year old.

Who's the architect? Those renderings are boss

What would UKs season ticket sales be if they had the seating capacity ? With Rupp, I would think demand far exceeds supply most years.

I actually prefer the smaller more old school gym feel, but, that is incredible.
