#1 LSU vs #2 Alabama - Breaking Down The National Championship

A lot of people see the "Game of the Century" part 2 rematch as a lopsided affair. Personally i think these two team are two of the best ever. Ever is metaphorically a big word but i have never seen two defenses with this much power.
LSU only allowed 10.5 ppg only giving up 252.1 ypg. LSU gave up a total 2,166 pass yards this season and a total of 1,111 rushing yards and recorded 18 interceptions and 3 int tds on the season.
Alabama only allowed 8.8 ppg only giving up 191.3 ypg. Alabama gave up a total 1,396 pass yards this season and a total 899 rushing yards and recorded 12 interceptions and 3 int tds on the season.
Although Alabama is statistically better in the total amount of passing yards given up on the season I think LSU has the better pass defense. Both teams have excellent defensive backs but i think LSU has the much better secondary. Not just because of TM7. Given LSU credit they did play an extra game with the SECCG but LSU also faced better offenses on the season against Oregons fast paced offense and winning at West Virginia against a great quarterback in Geno Smith, a team that put up record breaking numbers against Clemson.
Given LSU the advantage in the secondary i have to give Alabama the advantage up front. Even though LSU was one of only two FBS teams to rush for more than 100 yards against Alabama you have to take into credit Jeffersons legs. LSU is stout at running back as well as Alabama. Who should be able to run the ball better with a healthy Eddie Lacy. But LSU will also bring a healthier o-line. If Alabama had trouble stopping the run Nov 5th it may be even harder with LSU's line playing at 100%. Overall i give the edge to Alabamas defense at a complete neutral standpoint and give LSU's offense the edge. If Alabama cannot move the ball in LSU territory and keep the defense off the field we will find ourselves reliving the same game before.
LSU's key factors in the game IMO will be the legs of JJ, there offensive line, and TM7. JJ proved he could run November 5th and with a healthy o back could control the full game. TM7 wasn't much of a factor on the 5th but can become a complete game changer, not on defense, but in the return game.
Alabamas key factors IMO will be AJ, Brad Smelley, and Eddie Lacy. I didnt give alabama any factors on defense because i believe they need to be more focused on offense this game. AJ has improved the past couple of games and after watching tape he missed a lot of open players against LSU. If AJ can throw, Trent can run. Brad Smelley had a breakout game against Auburn, he couldnt be stopped, he made clutch catches against Auburn that helped convert on many 3rd downs. Eddie Lacy wasnt at a 100 percent against LSU with turf toe and i think if he can bring his A game will be a huge factor if he can become an extra pair of legs to run against LSUs defense.
In all i think LSU wins the game. I think both teams will score more but i think LSU edges Alabama at the end. I think Alabama will have a little more trouble stopping the run this game as i also think about LSU. But i think everything again will come down to the kicking game. I believe whatever team can control field position throughout the game will win. Alabama has lately been giving up points while on offense and in special teams and i think it will happen January 9th. I think this is another coin flip. Which ever team can force the most turnovers wins. My pick: LSU 23 Alabama 20. I hate hear how i am doubting my own tea but its what my gut tells me.
But at the very end i hope we can all raise the same flag.
I hope this game lives up to the hype and im very excited about this rematch. We are witnessing 2 giants battle. Both teams overflowing with NFL talent. Two of the best defenses, two legendary teams, two prolific coaches, Saban vs. The Mad Hatter, 1 vs 2. LSU vs Alabama.

Nice to see unbiased opinions from Bama, however just like your coach you forgot about Special Teams! I agree with most of your analysis. Our O-Line must play better too. We need to win more battles in the trenches to seal the deal!
Geaux Tigers!

Nice breakdown. I agree with a lot of that. My final score prediction stands at LSU 21-BAMA 17

I think our field goal game will be fine because Shelley will be kicking

A lot of people see the "Game of the Century" part 2 rematch as a lopsided affair.
Unless your sample is the Rant, most folks - and fans on both side - are expecting a close game.
I won't wish you luck tomorrow, DC - because I can't. Here's to a well-played, well-officiated injury-free game.
And Geaux Tigers!

Exactly what I'm thinking. Also after some hardcore pondering over this matchup I'm convinced that neither team will score more than 13 or 14 points. No way no how.
