Who owns the footballs?

Just something I was curious about and couldn't find easily on the web. Who owns the actual football the teams play with during a college game. Do the teams provide the ones they use while on offense?
I'm sure someone on the board knows, and TIA.

Usually it's away teams logo on the actual football.

Auburn fills theirs with helium when punting.

On kickoffs as well. I bought a couple of packs of illegal golfballs, and they really make a difference.

Seriously? It's something I didn't know so I asked. I was just wondering if someone knew the details about the footballs used. Who provides them, and is there a list of approved footballs?
Just curious.

Each school provides its own footballs, which must be inspected by the officials prior to the game. It is a forfietable offense to use non approved balls in the game.

Thanks. That's what I assumed. I didn't know they were inspected beforehand though.
I wonder how hard it would be to slip in a non-approved football for a kick-off.

Probably pretty difficult. If Cade starts kicking it past the 10, the suspicions will rise fairly quickly

Each team brings their own game balls. Not sure if the same goes for the BCSNCG though.

Mythbusters (I think) or else Sports Science tested the helium ball vs. regular, and the regular ball went further when kicked by a machine.

That's interesting. I wonder if there's a perfect gas to fill a football with. I suppose the physics would be fairly complicated regarding energy imparted to a football by a kicker's foot. Do you happen to remember if they weighed both balls?

Each team provides the balls they are using on offense.

away team used to provide all the balls, but the rule changed a few years ago to allow each team to use their own balls for offense. i believe they stamp the name of the team they're playing on the ball along w/ the school logo.
it would be the same for bowls and the BCSNC because its part of the rules of the game.

Les Miles is going punk Saban by replacing the football for kickoff with one that explodes in purple and gold streamers down the field when kicked. Instead of game prep he has been working on this device. It's going to be EPIC....
