Funny how that LSWho has beat you 2 times in a row and how many in the past 10 years...so many times we can't keep up either...don't worry, we will help yall out...1 crystal ball is easier to remember, shouldn't be hard to remember you only have 1 after you lose for 3rd time in a row.

Facts are facts. We have 8 since the Bowl Era, but anyone claiming we have more or less than 13 is ignorant. LSU has 3.
LSU has 3 major poll championships. Recognizing pre-poll era championships is really rather pointless since they are not contemporaneous, but simply the opinion of one person or small organization with a rating system awarded long after in hindsight. But, if you want to do that, then LSU has NCs from 1908 and 1935. Unlike Alabama, LSU has never claimed pre-poll NCs.

You have 6.

Got 6? Bama does.
(no, for real, bama really does have 6 legit titles that are not bullshite made up by insecure gumps)

Well count me in the insecure group. I say throw out 1941 and keep the rest.

Is 1978 one that bama fans claim?
If so, I have a nice little write up that calls it the 2nd biggest joke in the history of the AP poll.

Well, this AU fan had to look it up, but bama does claim it. So... write up.
By the way, this is not from an AU fan.

In the third week of the 1978 season, #2 Southern Cal (12-1) traveled to Birmingham and defeated #1 Alabama (11-1) 24-14. I'll be going into much more detail on this issue, but in the end, there really isn't anything more to say than that. I would rate this as the single worst job the AP poll ever did at #1, excepting of course years when they did not count bowl games.
The only competition for worst #1 selection is Brigham Young in 1984, and while Alabama '78 was a far better team than BYU '84, I think they were a worse #1 selection because there was no excuse for it. At least voters touting BYU in 1984 could say that BYU was the only unbeaten team. That's one more leg than Alabama voters had to stand on in 1978.
The only possible way Alabama could merit #1 in 1978 after losing to Southern Cal by more than a touchdown at home is if Alabama played a markedly stronger schedule and/or outperformed USC by a country mile. So let's go ahead and take a look...
quote:
As the NCAA measures strength of schedule (winning percentage of opponents), Southern Cal not only played a tougher schedule than did Alabama in 1978, they played the 2nd toughest in the country, and the toughest ever played by a team that finished #1 in one of the major polls (.663). Southern Cal played 7 teams that finished ranked in either the AP or coaches' polls, and this is back when they just ranked 20 teams, so that is an incredible number. Alabama played 4. USC played 9 teams that will finish ranked in the fixed and expanded top 25, Alabama 5. So we're not just talking about a tougher schedule for USC here-- we are talking about one of the toughest ever played by a national championship contender, if not the toughest.
24-14 in Birmingham plus one of the toughest schedules ever played by a 1-loss team renders any debate silly.
By the way, this is not from an AU fan.

We ended up número uno, right? Take it up with the voters then, not us. It's the same as this year if we win. We can't help that we get more national respect than probably every other school. Sorry for being superior
Posted on 12/31/11 at 9:41 am to Bryant91092
There in lies the problem. Bama claims to be superior many many times when they clearly were not.
Bama has been the best team in the country 6 years in its history. That is it.
13 =

We were voted #1 by a major poll except for 1941. That pretty much shows we were and still are superior. No need to be upset about it. Go back in time and run negative ads against us each year so voters wouldn't vote for us

Define major poll. Because that has happened 8 times. Not 13. And as has been pointed out, the polls have fricked up a lot over time, so the point still stands. Bama has been a legit NC 6 times.

AP, UPI, and today coaches poll/BCS.

I looked up another year, 1973, that bama claims due to a "major poll" (this is getting kinda fun).
Notre Dame, Ohio state, Michigan, OU, and PSU all finished undefeated. 5 teams with no loss.
Bama lost a game. To Notre Dame who was 11-0.
This is the year that was such an embarrassment to college football that the voting and polls were changed immediately. So, even though it was hugely embarrassing to everyone, Bama still ignorantly claims they were a champion that year. Sorta funny, but typical I suppose.

Bama does have all the AP and the UPI and the BCS and the Bowl Alliance trophies in the Bryant Museum. Things were done different in different eras. The AP and the UPI use to vote on the Champs before the bowl games (wasn't many in those days and they were just a reward for the team anyway).

There, you answered it youself.
We were voted #1 eight times by a major poll that is recognized today. You can't go back and say "Hey, I was wrong back then since we changed the rules now."
