(A) Good ole Mississippi.
(B) The "Ole Miss" who was the slaveowner's wife.
Take your pick.

Apparently, according to the intellectuals in the OT, the pyramids were built by volunteers because their were no Jewish slaves ever in Egypt.

That's stupid. Aliens built them.

Jews built AND financed the pyramids.
Just kidding...

Jews working on the upper levels were informed of the disaster the day BEFORE the Sumerian zeppelin crashed into it, and called in sick that day. True story.

The University got its nickname "Ole Miss" via a contest in 1897. That same year, the student yearbook was being published for the first time. As a way to find a name for the book, a contest was held to solicit any suggestions from the student body. Elma Meek, a student at the time, submitted the winning entry of Ole Miss. The name Ole Miss originated from a term of respect used by slaves for a plantation owner's wife. This sobriquet was chosen not only for the yearbook, but also became the name by which the University is now known.

There was a contest about 100 years ago to come up with a name for the school year book. A female student named elma meek won with her entry of "The Ole Miss", and the name stuck for the whole university.
I have never seen any evidence that miss meek decided to name it that because of the plantation owners wife.

Historically it is actually "Ole' Miss," which was a brand of taco shell popular in Mississippi in the 1930s. The package and advertising had a picture of a very pretty lady on the box. The college kids in Oxford started referring to pretty co-eds as "Ole' Misses," or to say "Look at that Ole' Miss!" The campus use of Ole' Miss became so popular that it stuck. Over the years they dropped the accent mark, mostly because people in Mississippi didn't understand what it meant anyway, and forgot about the taco, and it just became Ole Miss.
