The NCAA Football Rules Committee endorsed a proposal Wednesday that penalizes unsportsmanlike conduct as a live-ball foul beginning in the 2011 season.

The change would mean, for example, that if a player makes a taunting gesture to an opponent on the way to scoring a touchdown, the flag would nullify the score and penalize the offending team from the spot of the foul.

and I think everyone and their mother think that those flags were BS flags....that is when the nullifying TDs rule change completely screws the team and embarrasses the sport

me too. they dont need to be taunting or anything. they need to act like they do it all the time instead of acting like its there first time scoring a TD or makin a long run or catching a deep pass. no need

Terrible rule. The more that gets put in the refs hands as a rule of "judgement" the worse off college football is.

Can't wait until a ref gets squirrely and calls the penalty on a player who gets a little excited on the way to the end zone (i.e. high steps, dives, etc) and it nullifies a TD in a big game.

Hate it. They are playing the game that they love and bust their arse all year round, so why shouldn't they be able to celebrate?

I will love this rule change if it helps the hogs and hate it if it hurts them.

Might want to change that subject line. Need to give an overview of what the topic is about. Your subject line is about as generic as one can get.

This - it's great to say that you don't like taunting and I agree with you but it should not decide games.

I don't recall a State player every taunting on the way to score so I like the rule.

One of the worst rule changes of all time.

It looks great on paper. I can't stand it when college players taunt or make an arse of themselves.

But imagine it's the Iron Bowl and an Auburn player is sprinting towards the endzone for a touchdown. It's right in front of the student section. The crowd is going crazy. Alabama players are right on his tail - is he going to make it? Will he get tripped up before he crosses? Will this be the game winner?

So to ensure he scores, he stretches the ball straight out in front of him with one hand. As he crosses the endzone for the score, he raises the ball in the air before giving it to the ref.

Flag hits the turf. Unsportsmanlike conduct is the call because the player was celebrating before the endzone by holding the ball up to the student section for an unnecessary and premature celebration.

Touchdown called back.

Alabama wins.

The idea that a subjective call by a ref can negate a touchdown is ludicrous. You think people have been whispering about refs being bought and refs fixing games? Just wait. Just wait until a ref has the power to actually steal a touchdown from a team.

yea not smart to give sec refs something like this to call that is a subjective matter.

plus the game is suppose to be fun, scoring is fun so let the kids celebrate. garbage fricking rule
