TUSCALOOSA, Alabama -- A memorial service for Aaron Douglas is scheduled for Sunday at Cokesbury Center (9915 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, Tenn.).

The service is meant to be a celebration of life, and is open to the public.

Funeral arrangements are pending, but the ceremony is expected to be private.

Thats not true. That article clearly says that NEARLY 1 in 5 used painkillers recreationally at some point last year.

Funky you don't get it..I said DRUG PROBLEM..I did not specify any particular drug. And I think there is little doubt what caused Aaron Douglas' death.

Yeah it's huge, there are few if any that don't know someone this has affected. It is way out of hand and no one is addressing it.

To say the parents are to blame is dead wrong. Most of them teach their children better, the kids are to blame.

They make the choice, not their mom or dad. Cut their money off and bring them home from school and if they are so inclined they will still use this crap.

Our very culture promotes this. Popular music celebrity use and peer pressure make it seem like the thing to do.

I don't have the answer I wish I did. But its time we got a lot more serious than we are.

You can drive to Florida to "PAIN CLINICS" they diagnose you there, fill your script there and you are on your merry way. The parking lot is full of cars from West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, etc. "HILLY BILLY HEROIN is taking over. Scary thing when I took a young man to rehab was "BATH SALTS". That's right. "BATH SALTS". Kids are crushing them and snorting them. Just like they were doing with PAIN PILLS until the FDA made it impossible to crush them. So now they are melting them down in a microwave and shooting them up. It's scary epidemic. I just read of all the states MAINE was #1 on the pain killer abuse list..It's Nation wide I tell you...

Abuse is a horrible thing. Anyone who goes through it can attest to the hold it has on your life. It ruins not only your life, but damages everyone who touches you.

People die every day from drugs and alcohol abuse and anther person takes their place in the cycle. having gone through it myself, its one deadly problem that is 100% preventable. Best wishes to his family, they are the ones who will suffer.

Okay, but still, no one knows anything for sure yet.

I never said that the parents are to blame, I just said that the parents that continue to blindly supply their kids with money, of which they buy drugs with, need to do a better job of doing their part. This of course doesnt apply to every situation, but I sure as hell see it VERY often up here in Tuscaloosa.

Agreed.

Maybe, but they are probably less likely to.

I dont think our culture promotes drug addiction. Sure, there are songs and celebrities that advocate it, but I wouldnt say that is the norm.

I guess, but what exactly is anyone going to do? Put more money into the war on drugs so we can bust pot dealers doors down everyday? College kids are going to do drugs. That is how it has been for the last half century. Its just the way it is.

Hell, I have a huge drinking and drug problem, I don't mind admitting it. My parents know about it all.

Of course they try and stop me, but bottom line is the fact that I'm not in their "grasp" anymore. Don't pretend like any of you didn't drink and do drugs back in college.

Most of us drank Beer and smoked enough weed to fill up a barn 25 years ago. Smoking weed isn't going to land you in rehab though, never met a person yet who is the pen for committing a violent crime while under the influence of pot..But you aren't going to be to productive in society either though..and a damn DRUNK will do anything..Or try anything..

That being said though.."YOU WILL ALWAYS BE UNDER YOUR PARENTS GRASP MY FRIEND..It's called.."FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE"..Your parents no matter HOW OLD you are worry about you..Doesn't matter how old you are or how old they are, they worry and what you do effects them and it effects the people who love and care about you. Just because you aren't living in a house with someone doesn't mean you don't cause them grief. Here's hoping that you get your life straightened out while you're still a young man.

I have never smoked weed or did any kind of drugs. It's just not my thing. I still know how to have a good time minus all of that. Please dont bash me for saying this but I just dont understand how anyone likes the feeling of not being in control of your body and not being able to make rational decisions while on some drugs. I work for a hospital and have done a lot of drug charts over the years whom a lot have died. It really is sad.

When I was younger I did just about every drug there was to do short of crack and heroin. And loved it. But now I much prefer the buzz of 3 or 4 beers to anything. I dont even enjoy getting "drunk" anymore like I did when I was younger, just a light buzz is perfect for me. Still in control, still making rational decisions, and most importantly, since I stay at home or only drink out if I have a ride, I dont have to watch behind me in fear of spending the night in county lockup.

Age usually takes care of these problems, but not always. The ones that it doesnt are the ones that need rehab the most.

Totally agree. It amazes me sometimes that people even try it with the evidence and knowledge of how messed up it makes folks. I know not all end up down that road, but the percentages that do are pretty high and the odds are high. And I don't say this to condemn the young man, because it's a shame and I do realize that sometimes folks can and do get hooked taking for legit reasons and it's hard to get off them. Just a tragic situation and one that is played out way too often in todays world.

There is nothing wrong with smoking weed, if you can function on it.

Outside of it being illegal and all? I've seen people arrested for it. I've seen people that had their 2 y.o. child sitting on 3 lbs of it dealing behind a supermarket. Drugs attract a criminal element and puts innocent people at risk too. I know there are people that do it recreationally, and I'm not trying to demonize them or make out that I'm better, because I'm not. I'm just in agreement with others that I don't need it and feel it's a shame that people do feel they need it and have their lives destroyed because of it(I know this doesn't apply to all).

Wait, are we talking about legal issues, or personal issues? And I said smoking weed, not making your 2 year old sell it behind a supermarket. We've had this convo before. My shite comes from legal grow houses in Colorado and Cali. No drug gangs involved.
