Dareus was considered a top 5 pick based on performance before the NC game by both Kiper and McShay.

Fairley plays the glamor position in the same scheme Warren Sapp did under Monte Kiffin(Chizik was one of the 1st college coaches to successfully adapt the Tampa 2 to the college game).

Dareus plays a position that is 2nd fiddle to the LBs, 3 sacks a season is the norm for a DE. He's suppose to take on blockers and create a push so LBs can make the play, not rack up sacks( opposed to Fairley, whose job is to penetrate the C-G gap).

If you don't think Dareus performed well as a 3-4 DE, you don't know football...

You may be surprised but I am not the only one that thinks Dareus did not "earn" a top 5 pick by his play. He may get it on his physical ability and what he could do in the NFL. And I do understand the difference between he 3/4 an 4/3.

I'm not surprised, but you are also the minority.

Apparently not based on your first sentence...

Dareus is bigger.Am I wrong or didn't he run faster than Fairley at the Combine.I also think that even though Dareus was slowed my nagging injuries,he gave Bama a couple of great years at DT.

Fairley played lights out this Season. Most dominant Defensive Lineman in the Nation. He put up one great year where Dareus played three pretty respectable years.

There are guys projected in the first round who didn't play a down last year. In the draft potential extremely out weighs production so when you say he didn't earn a top 5 pick because of his lack of production that doesn't mean much to the scouts
