He said Tubbs called Dorsey a monkey and said he would have took his other leg out if he had came back for his Sr. year...

Ehhh...his take on Islam doesn't exactly mesh with mine. We would probably argue. Mahomet isn't one of my favorites to say the least.

You couldn't argue his views on stupid people. Candide always makes me laugh, and I stay away from his more fanatical tragedies.

Agreed.

I struggle with his take on faith, and the play I listed is not exactly veiled in its take on Islam. How does he balance his belief in religious tolerance and his distain for the Prophet? Oh, and AU is going down.

I never took him that literally, I guess. I always assumed he was more intentional in his satire, and that his intolerance for Islam and the Prophet was more of a reflection on the hypocrisy of the time. If I read him with a less abstract lens, I fully agree with you.
ETA: In much the same way, Tubby's real life mirrors the satirical humor.

I've probably always been too sensitive toward the aformentioned subject matter to approach the work with the proper mindset.

Its possible to have tolernce and disdain at the same time. For exmple, I believe in political tolerance, yet have a great deal of disdain for Karl Marx. But my disdain for him and his followers doesn't mean I think it should be illegal to be a communist.

On the contrary, I am probably too insensitive. I tend to think people are joking or mocking when they aren't. It's my optimism.

You and I are on the same page.

I think that way too... so, When all of the critics were slain in Mahomet, I took that as a reproachful commentary of the current political situation and his own disdain for such a radical and intolerant mindset.

Again, I probably am just too close to have such a reasonable approach/commentary. I've never been too proud to acknowledge that some things affect my perception.

I have a hard time with some of Shakespeare's tragedies for the same reasons....
