Half of the Boise State football coaches will visit their colleagues at Alabama next week as part of the staff’s annual professional development.

Four of the Broncos’ offensive coaches — all but new wide receivers coach Robert Prince — and defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski are making the trip to Alabama.

Offensive coordinator Brent Pease played for the Houston Oilers when Alabama coach Nick Saban was the defensive backs coach. Pease also is friends with Alabama offensive coordinator Jim McElwain.

Pease is particularly interested in the way Alabama runs the ball.

“I want to see how they misused their Heisman Trophy back (Mark Ingram),” Pease said.

Kwiatkowski has a “laundry list” of questions, including how the Crimson Tide manages to be so predictable and stagnant with such elite talent.

His staff is scattering — linebackers coach Bob Gregory is headed to Ohio State, defensive backs coach Marcel Yates is headed to Utah State and Utah and nickels/special teams coach Jeff Choate will attend an event in Houston involving coaches from eight schools. Yates’ mission is to find out how Utah State and Utah attacked the Broncos, giving the coaches a different perspective on their defense.

The coaches will share their information in the coming weeks and use some of it during spring ball, which begins March 7.

“It’s not like everything we bring back we try to implement before spring ball,” Kwiatkowski said. “When I look at this team and I see talent all across the board, and we want to know what NOT to do so we don't frick it up like Alabama did.”

I think they wanted to, but Vlachos and Jones were playing hurt all season and Warmack was a huge downgrade from Mike Johnson. We ran the ball decently to the outside, but you have to be able to own the interior to really dominate in the run game.

Seriously though, Boise's offensive scheme is far better than Alabama's
