Is the judge in Lee County a barner or bama?...

This could have a HUGE impact on the case. I'm sure the defense will want to move the case out of Lee County because he won't get a fair/impartial jury there. Can you imagine a barner judge ruling on this case? The judge would be under a lot of pressure from the public to send this guy WAYYYYY up the river. It is already setting up as the next Grisham novel/movie, can you see the scene where they are awaiting final verdict? The courthouse lawn is covered with angry barners on one side, & taunting bama fans on the other. State militia has to be called in to keep the peace.

I just hope he gets a fair trial and a fit punishment. I think fines, probation and pay for damages should be fine

Hadn't thought about that....Hell, I may go down there just to see the "show" on judgement day. If the ruling goes easy on the guy, they may rush the courthouse, grab this guy (w/ I guess wouldn't be difficult if he is being "guarded" by a bunch of barners), & string him up on a limb of the dying tree. Maybe the college gameday crew could set up on the lawn of the courthouse. Can you see Lee Corso at this thing, he'll do the whole mascot head thing just before the verdict is read.

(for what it is worth, I do feel bad for the barners, this guy just took this a wee tad too far & deserves to be made an example of for the crime he committed & to get this whole rivalry thing in check before something really bad happens)

He will almost certainly accept a plea as opposed to go to trial. If these were any other trees, he likely would get probation and pay a fine (depending on his prior criminal record). Because these trees are historically significant to a large portion of the state, he may have to spend a few months in jail.

I'd be an impartial judge - IF the guy is found guilty I'd fine him harshly and require full restitution which could be in the 100s of thousands and require him to do a day of jail time for every $100 he couldn't pay.
I'd also ban him from ANY college campus or sporting event for life with a suspended sentence of 1 year in jail so that if he was ever caught on a college campus or college sporting venue he'd automatically have to serve the year.
I will feel the same way when the barns retaliate and blow up bear's statue or something.
Of course the penalty will be more severe when explosives are involved...

I am pretty sure that will happen.

The case should be removed to federal court for this exact reason.

Doubt he gets tried in Lee County, if it goes to trial at all...

Please tell me how a fat, redneck, loser is going to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines and reparation costs?
This loser is going to jail and considering the unbelievable fact he is already 62, hopefully for the rest of his sad pathetic life.

If it is a bama judge, then we need to keep an eye out for this guy:
