1. Save Richt's career

2. Provide Kirby Smart with a good foundation

Apparently, Richt is the better recruiter than Smart. And since he actually has actual SEC championships on his resume, he is also the better coach at this time.

and yes, Smart will not be offered the job should it open.

3. Give him plenty of players that can run out on the field to congratulate the first UGA player to score against Florida.

1. It doesn't matter if we have the 1st or 31st ranked class this year, Richt needs to win the east.

2. Smart will never be our head coach.

It seems the Dawgs easily forget how terrible Richt has been as a HC for the last few seasons.

That is a little bit of a misguided statement. The reason we've been bad is due to awful defense, lack of conditioning, and lack of discipline/fundamentals. Yes, I totally understand every one of those ultimately falls on the head coach. But each one of those areas has been/is being addressed, and things should start to turn around pretty quick, especially with this top 5 class. This is still the same head coach that won the east 3 times in 4 years. He didn't just forget what to do.

5. Have fast enough players to get off the field after another "black out" beatdown in Athens before their own fans turn on them.

Georgia should be able to do better than Smart. He may turn out to be a great coach but a program like Georgia shouldn't have to hire a guy with no head coaching experience.

I still say barring a complete disaster next season UGA would be stupid to fire Richt. The dude is 96-34 in the ultra competitive SEC. That's the 11th best winning percentage in the country over that time period. AND he's ran a clean program with nary a whisper of a rumor of trouble with the NCAA , he graduates his players. He's a great coach. IMHO it would be an indictment against our entire conference if we became so competitive that coaches who "only" wins 3X as many games as they lose start getting fired.

No. The only thing that will save his job is winning the East. Some incoming freshmen might contribute, but it won't be more than a handful of them.
