Coyotes can absolutely take down a full size deer. It is just not very common.
Studies have shown that they can effect deer populations in some areas. In other areas, not so much....

We've killed 23 in the same trap over the last 4 days. All shot in the trap. Take it FWIW....

I would keep your traps baited during the week with the trap open. Then when you're there on the weekend, set it....

Talked to a US Fish and Wildlife Service LE guy that busted a dude digging up sea turtle eggs. He said those things can go for $60/dozen at high end restaurants. Sea turtles usually lay over 100 eggs. That's a lot of dough.
There's something about the eggs that makes them really good. Heavy yolk ...
