I knew they sweetened the deal, didn't know the exact numbers.

Or maybe he didn't want to go to a school that he couldn't win at. Believe it or not money isn't everything.

If i wrote what I'm thinking right now, you would probably hunt me down and beat me up....

Gus's attorney wanted the contract to include where the 3 million a year was actually coming from.

Saban wouldn't agree to it!

Do you really think he turns down $15m? Makes more sense that he didn't have an acceptable offer of $15m. They probably talked about a much lower money to him.

No offer is ever "turned down" the school contacts a coach or his agent and says, "would you be interested in coaching here for xxMillion?" If you say yes then more details are worked out, if you say no you get no "official" offer. That way the school got the only man they wanted not their second or third etc...

Nope, you would probably just say something like thats why your in the military or your family is poor. Something along those lines but it wouldn't bother me, I come from a wealthy family and live a good lifestyle but definitely from the old school.

Vandy did not offer a guaranteed 3 million, it was like 1.6 million with 1.4 in incentives.
I think this is probably close to reality. Auburn will pay him close to the 1.6 and he looked at the possibilities of hitting the incentives and thought, hhmmmm, all this is really worth is 1.6. Doesn't matter what they put in the contract if there is no realistic way of reaching them.

Actually they say what is it going to take to get you to come here? Numbers get thrown out and if there is some agreement then a letter of agreement is drawn up but when fans say he was offered $3m per year they don't understand how that works. Malzhan would have walked to Vandy for $3m per year.

I forget the base salary but I've heard the total with all incentives was 2.85 Million that was on the table. They were offering some MAJOR help to the football program, from the sounds of it Vandy really wants to turn their football program around.

Who knows, he might really take the job anyway after the BCSNCG.

It wouldn't be the first time we've heard a coach say they were NOT going to be the coach at The University of xyz!

They wrote a blank check for the staff under Malzahn.

They really did try to turn their program around.

They have to fish or cut bait. The conference is leaving them behind and unless they pony up some decent money they they will never catch up.
