As much as I try, as much as I hope, as much as I want to pretend the Golden Boot means something besides a regular W, I can't find it in my heart to consider Ar-Kansas a rival. I actually feel sad for them. No one really cares about them, they are closer to most mid western schools than SEC schools, and they rarely cause enough noise to gain interest from season to season. I think a school like TAMU (even still kinda meh), Clemson, UVA, or VT would be a far better match in the SEC. They have a long history and tradition of good football, have stronger southern ties, and great fanbases. I really want today to feel more like a rivalry game, I really want to get hyped up but I can't. This might as well be another WVU or UNC game. Anyone else feel this way? Oh well, maybe I'm alone!

I agree. ESPN is trying to hype this "rivalry" for marketing purposes.

You're not alone.

LSU is not our rival, and I'm fine with it.

Yeah, thats it...

Being the game is on CBS, ESPN really is working hard to market this game.

I think we should strike up a deal with the ACC and Big Texas conference. Big Texas conference takes yall, we take Clemson, everyone is happen. Except maybe the ACC, but I never said it was a fair deal haha.

Who is Arkansas's rival? In the old SWC it had to be Texas, but who is it now? The Black Bears?

Arkansas, like LSU, is easily one of the top 20 teams of all time. Several long-standing SEC schools are not in that group. Yes, their real glory days are somewhat distant but they are consistantly competitive in the best division of the best conference in America. I'm in the camp that would not trade them for any school in the Big 12 or ACC. That doesn't mean I don't think the SEC should expand eventually and take in a couple more competitive schools.

Arkansas just doesn't really have a rival. LSU seems to be in the same boat.

The boot means nothing to us either other than meaning we won a big game.

We don't have one and that's fine. I'm probably in that last generation that still has a strong dislike of Texas and aTm, none of the SEC teams will likely evoke that much dislike for me.

The SEC is simply great football and very entertaining. Playing in this conference is simply fun.

It's just the way it is.

I think the Bama and even Ole Miss games are more of a rivalry. Arkansas hasn't been in the SEC long enough to build the same rivalry.

Still a game that has to be won every year. I actually pull for Arky any time we aren't playing them, or if their win somehow hurts us.

Yep. Takes more than a couple of decades to have a real rival.

I don't know why LSU fans are above admitting the Arkansas series has been a good one for the last decade or so. I have no problem admitting LSU has been a much better program during that period and Arkansas has more or less played spoiler.

What a lot of LSU fans (due to age) don't remember is that Arkansas has helped improve the SEC to top tier in all sports. Nobody played KY in basketball until we joined the SEC and showed that KY could be punched in the mouth. We've won a NC in basketball (which has legitimate NCs as opposed to football), not many SEC teams have done that in the modern game.

We're competative in baseball, I believe our attendance is second only to LSU. We've got a pretty good team that has been to Omaha. It's not LSU's gorilla ball teams of the 90s but it's fun.

If you look at the 3 major sports, Arkansas is very competative in all 3.

We bring more to the table than many other SEC schools when you take a high elevation look.

Rivalries develop they can't be declared or engineered. The golden boot is silly.

That said, the last five years have done a lot more to make this a rivalry than any contrived trophy/name. If this game continues to be as important (or more so) as it is this year, it will gradually become more and more of a true rivalry.

No thanks on the Big 12, we are a part of the SEC and aren't going anywhere.

You said we're closer to the mid-western schools but we should go to the "Big Texas" conference?

We've been in the SEC since most of the kids playing today were born. Deal with it. I hope your team and the rest of your fans feel the same way that you do about this game. I would LOVE to go to the sugar bowl.

1. you are correct in that the Ark v LSU game is not a 'rivalry' game like CAL Stanford or Yale Harvard, because those have been played for 100 years. And Ark is a late add on to the SEC when the SWC died/morphed into the Tex12.

2. The Ark game has the makings of a rivalry. Having this game at the end of the season will eventually build it up.
It is certainly very important, for LSU. So if Ark wins, they have taken something from LSU, a berth in the Sugar which is theirs if Aubie wins next week and LSU wins this week.
ANd if USCe wins vs Aubie, LSU can still go to the Orange.
No BCS bowl for LSU if Ark wins.
