From the heart of Aubbieland...

Let me say this...
I live deep in the heart of Auburn country. Many of my friends and family are Auburn Alumni. I work with, go to church with, and am close friends with people who are deeply devoted to Auburn. Heck, one of my former co-workers, and still a good friend, was a running back at Auburn. All of them are genuinely good people. I mean that sincerely; however, the recent events on the plains has created a strange aura around here.
Back in 2004, they were happy, yet disappointed in the overall results. In 1994, they stood proud of their teams' accomplishments despite their probation. Today, they are strangely rabid and defensive. The attitude does not exist solely in the realm of this board or other online forums. They are livid, resulting from paranoia, and these aren't people who normally act that way. They really believe that the world is out to get them only because their team is winning.
It is like a cult.

NCAA doesn't believe in fairy tales. Cam's father shopped him, Cam knew it, and the old man got paid. It's just a matter of time, Cam's ineligible and all wins will be vacated. Hope it happens before Bama game. However, Bama beats them with or without Cam... can't wait.

I will say that the images of Cam exhorting the faithful this Saturday at Jordan Hare into a rapt frenzy that conjured images of an old time country revival was surreal to say the least.

It's really amazing, but that seems to match with what I've seen. Even some of the most reasonable posters are now getting afflicted.

You ever seen "The Omega Man" with Charlton Heston? Auburn fans are like The Family in that but a million times worse.

Stages of Grief:
1. Denial – Auburn is not in trouble and has done nothing wrong
2. Anger – this isn't fair, others do worse, they are jealous
3. Bargaining – can't be that bad, let's see how it plays out, nothing will come of it
4. Depression - this sucks
5. Acceptance – may as well prepare for the worst possible, i'll look forward to the future

Now the thing with Cam and his sideline antics are very unsportsmanlike.. I do not like the blowng kisses and stuff.. Some fans are acting this way because BAMA won a Heisman and a NC last year... Auburn is now in the same shoes and we want to win and say we did the same as BAMA did last year.. Call it the little bro syndrome but we as Auburn fans we want a NC and want to experience it.

quote:It is not that. The worst thing about it is that I live in Florida and the Auburn fans that talk crap to me is unreal. Then I ask them simple questions about their program like "Name a Heisman trophy winner from your school" Needless to say they can't. Then respond with the typical "You don't have to know about the program to be a fan". All I ask is simple questions like that and they get so angry. Then when I point out the Cam deal the say that LSU pays Patrick Peterson and K Shep. It really is getting beyond bearable.

I just went from 1,2,5 and the entire process to 5 was really quick.

Good post. I agree with pretty much everything you said. I admit that I have been pretty defensive this year. Frankly, it sucks to put together a dream season and have everyone around you tearing it down. There is an awful lot of Auburn hating going around.
I understand where it comes from: the allegations surrounding Cam, the dirty play by Fairley, etc. I realize that there might be more to the Cam story, and we may be facing probation in the future, and it deeply worries me. However, there is no direct evidence indicating Auburn has done anything wrong, so for now I choose to believe that Auburn is innocent.
As for the dirty play by Fairley, most Auburn fans I know were disgusted with the spear on Murray the other night. I have felt that he was toeing the line for a while, now. He definitely crossed it last night. I couldn't be more disappointed, but it doesn't make our team thugs because he made a late hit in the heat of the moment. I am also disappointed in Goggans and Blanc for throwing punches, regardless of whether it was instigated. Our team did not handle themselves well last night, and it certainly diminished what would have been a great win. Having said that, tempers were flaring all night between AU and UGA, and I don't believe the actions of a few players last night truly represents the character of our whole team.
It would be a dream come true for us to win the NC this year, so I absolutely hate that the season is being tarnished. As far as I know, Auburn has done nothing wrong with regard to Cam. Auburn fans are defensive because this season is very precious to them.
