Newton could very well be one of the best if not the best player in sec history (Still TBD), It is upsetting to me that people are taking joy in this. I feel bad for AU as well, they imo are the best team in college football this year and are a shitload of fun to watch. Which brings me to my next point, all of these top players receive something. When saban was pulling top recruits out of miami when he got here, do some of you believe they came to baton rouge for the scenery? and play for a coach that was not well known at the time? Get real people, there are handlers on the major programs that can afford it.
And why shouldn't' they get compensated? The ncaa, sec, and schools are raking in millions of the sweat and blood off these young men. But it's "not right" or "damages the integrity of the game" when they get paid? College football is probably one of the most competitive and profitable businesses in america today. Coaches are upping the ante on the million dollar contracts, bowl bids are worth more and more. The money is raked in and spread around. I think the LSU football program was ranked number 5 or 6 in the nation and like 75 million. frick man, why does the kid have to be the bad guy. It's almost as if the rules are in place to make the kid look bad while the money machine keeps rolling.
And another thing that is bothering me, is if his dad received money to renovate a church and if that is what he did with the money then that IS frickING GREAT!!
we put politicians BACK in office when they screw prostitutes on OUR DIME!
"on no! his church got renovated"! Sound like a good thing and a great way to spend his money. GOD BLESS HIM or i should say GOD BLESSED HIM.
It's now fair for everyone to cash in on his god given talent but him.

oh, and some of you wont' admit it. But i guarantee some of you hope it's true so that abomination of a game we played 2 weeks ago against auburn will just go away.
Some are just plain giddy over it.

Seriously?? He will cash in on his God given talent like everyone else when he goes pro! Like everyone else in college he should have to wait. Can't believe anyone would defend this by saying that!

Yeah, the booster thing never bothered me. These guys put in alot of time for 2000 dollars a semester? That probably comes out to about 3 dollars an hour when you look at the time they actually put in to perform well year round.
Also, anyone who doesn't think this isn't occurring at LSU now is in lala land.

so if I go shake down a bunch of rich guys, but use the money to build a church, that's ok?

So you think it's ok for him or any other recruits to be paid to go to school somewhere??

Dude seriously...cheating is cheating. Why couldnt his greedy arse Dad just wait till he went pro...then build a glorious worship center instead of renovating some beat up church.
I do not feel sorry for Auburn or the Newtons.
If this is all proven to be true.

I stopped reading after the part about how players should be compensated. It doesnt matter what should be, it's against the rules right now and it looks like he broke them and both should be punished accordingly.

at all these negative responses. Had this come out about a high profile LSU player 90% of yal would be saying the same exact thing as the OP.

Yeah, if he quits now, he'll have an awesome record.
Not sure why that would make him one of the best in history.

Why do people feel that student athletes should be "compensated"... They are getting a free ride to some of the best schools in America as well as getting treated like kings! Stay in the best hotels, take chartered flights, as well as get meals paid for with housing. How is that not enough?
