I liked USC a little better but I think it would have been a great game. Playing in NO may have given LSU the edge though. That and AU not getting a shot at USC in 04 should have easily been enough to kill off the BCS yet here we are 7 years later with the same pathetic, abusrd system.

Auburn had lost Petrino as OC after 2002 and went to a OC by committee in 2003 with Nall and Emsinger... Nall is now running a trucking company.

I think you were referring to my post, in which case I will clarify. I remember Auburn removing Nall from playcalling duties after the game against us and going with someone else (Ensminger I guess). Any offensive coach who manages only three points over two games with Jason Campbell, Ronnie Brown, Carnell Williams, and Brandon Jacobs in the backfield has no business in the coaching profession. Auburn was much better after that change IMO and would have easily beaten us if we faced them in October or November.

Honestly, I'd give the edge to USC that year. Both teams beat up Auburn if I recall, but USC's offense was probably better. LSU's offense struggled against the better defenses.

OK it was another year when Davey and Reed lit us up like a Christmas tree. I'm having a hard time remembering this game. Anybody got a box score or scoring summary to refresh my memory? Is this the game where LSU just flat out shut us down and Mauck hooked up with Henderson a few times for td's and Broussard had a pretty big game running?

What NOOOOOOOOOO one remembers, is that LSU was actually ranked AHEAD of USC, until we lost to Florida. The whole reason USC was ahead of us in the other polls the second half of the season is quite simply because:
"THEY LOST TO CAL """"EARLIER"""" THAN WE LOST TO FLORIDA." Period.

Also, what no one seems to remember, we held a team that had AVERAGED nearly 60 points a game, including 66 against Texas, and 63 on A&M - to
149 yards of offense, (over half that in the last 8 minutes of the game!), and their 2 TD's were:
*A 1-yard drive following a blocked punt. And it took them 6 tries and an LSU penalty to even get that 1 yard!!! """"ONE""""" yard!
*A 30 yard drive after a Mauck interception inside LSU territory!

Does anybody ACTUALLY THINK USC could have done better ?????!!!!

Mauck led the SEC with 27 TD passes that year. We scored 55 on Arkansas, 51 on MSU, 38 at USCe, beat Bama at Bama 27-3, crushed Auburn 31-7, and beat Georgia TWICE, including a skull-effing at the Georgia Dome for the SECC - 34-13. We had more than just an unbelievable defense.

I have no doubt we would have embarrassed the mighty men of Troy in the Dome that night.

hiccup, cool. I only remember that goal line stand by L$U against Oklahoma (maybe the blowout was already on, I don't recall why I wasn't paying constant attention). That was a good swampcat team.
