Is it just smoke, or is he considering transferring? Seeing some stuff pop up on Rivals

Damn, I sure hope not. I was excited about watching him play in a couple of years.

but folks that know him and his dad says he is not thrilled with being 4th on the depth chart.also the staff have been on him about his weight and work ethic. i just found it surprising now that out of the blue Ely commits to these guys, they must really be pissed with Simms.
Take it for what its worth..

He is third on the depth chart.

How can one be forth on a depth chart, when there are only three QBs on scholarship? Not to mention that one of said QBs is a senior. A.J. and Phillip will compete for the starting job for 2011 this coming spring.

Just people assuming he is gone because Bama took Ely...

Think that quote is indicating that Ely would be ahead of him because of his poor work ethic
ETA..the ginger will be gone by then, true.

Ely has yet to start his final high school season. How in the holy hell can someone assume he's going to beat out Morgan Ogilvie at this point?

If he's getting passed by Morgan Ogilvie on the depth chart then he should transfer but I don't think that'll happen

Which is a stupid assumption to begin with. Every program tries to take one QB in each class.

Is this what you're talking about?

Actually, there are a few post in other threads about Ely talking about it..but that is the main one

Yep. Two weeks into fall camp, and he's going to leave. Hell, he knew he would be working toward spring 2011 from the get-go.

He was pretty good with the Giants.

It would not shock me to see him transfer eventually. Sims will not play at Alabama until his RS Senior year unless one of these things happen:
1. McCarron gets hurt
2. McCarron goes pro early
McCarron has clearly established himself as our QB for the next 2 or 3 years. Having said that, if Sims wants to play at a big time school, there were not many other schools that could have given him a better opportunity. Before Ely committed, Sims and McCarron were going to be the only 2 scholly QB's on our roster next year.

If Sims does leave after losing the QB battle, I will be scared as shite being one hit to the knee away from having true freshman Ely being our starting QB and only remaining scholly QB on the roster.

If Simms leaves after losing a QB battle to AJ next year then he is a coward.

At any other position, yea maybe, but QB is a position where only one guy can play and if you want a decent shot at the NFL, you usually need to start in college for more than one year.
Why would Sims give up his career goal of playing in the NFL out of loyalty to a school far away from his home?

To leave in his first real year of competition would be quitting on himself imo. If there is any truth to this maybe he has seen AJ and does not believe he will ever be able to beat him out. With an attitude like that it would be hard for him to be a leader anywhere. If he is already considering this then he is already defeated in his mind before he ever gets a chance to battle for the starting job next year.
