It really depends on what you get your degree in.
A political science degree will not have the earning power of a degree in one of the four major engineering disciplines.

The best value of education is probably one of the UC schools if you are lucky enough to live in California and get in state tuition to UCLA or Berkley.

AU = higher academic ranking by practically every publication than UAT

Alabama and Auburn are both ranked 96th in the country by USNWR. The one that matters.

Not now, but when the new shelby town opens it won't even be close. Alabama is throwing gobs of money at the program.

I can't believe you actually typed that.

Exactly. SC has one of the, if not the best business schools in the United States and a great Marine Science program but if you want a more respectable engineering degree Clemson is where its at.
And according to this site a degree at UVA is worth more than getting one at schools we label as smart schools such as Northwestern and Vandy.

I have always heard of UVA being one of the top targets of strong highschool students.

Generally going to a public university from out of state is not that great a financial value. Private schools give better financial aid, generally speaking, and public schools use out of state students' money to give financial aid to residents. I would have spent alot less money going to MIT or Stanford than I did to go to Michigan, coming from Louisiana. Too bad I didn't get into either of those.

Agreed. I would take my accounting degree from Bama over all other SEC schools outside of Vandy and USC. But if I wanted to be a vet, I would go to the barn. Stop getting in a pissing match over the best school and compare programs instead.

Laugh all you want. UA engineering has been behind AU for a while now, but given the vast amounts of $ Dr. Witt and Sen Shelby are currently pumping into the program, AU is going to be passed within the next few years.
It's no secret that UA has more money than AU; and it appears that engineering is the #1 focus of the board right now.

Not splitting hairs but the last one I saw we were in the 80s and y'all were in the 90s not that it matter
All I know is Auburn is way harder to get into now than Bama and it was a good bit harder when I applied...a lot of people I know got into Bama but not Auburn

or transfer in. So many people flunk out of UC Berkeley, there are seats for the junior year.

Fall 2008 acceptance rates:
UA 60.4%

Both listed as 'more selective' by USNews.
