What you hope to learn from your team's Spring Practice

For Auburn:

Offense: The two big question marks are quarterback and right tackle. Can the two JUCOs (Cam Newton and Rozell Gayden) step in and be difference makers in the SEC? This probably won't get answered in the spring, but these two can go along way in meeting expectations with strong spring showings.

Defense: Some guys need to step up on the interior of the defensive line. Nick Fairley is a good candidate, but who else? Also, can the guys returning returning from injury(aaron savage and mike mcneil) contribute? Linebacker depth is probably the defense's biggest concern, but this probably won't get answered until the freshmen hit campus, although it would be nice if Jessel Curry, Jonathon Evans, and Harris Gaston show signs of being SEC-level linebackers.

Special Teams:
Is RS senior Ryan Shoemaker the answer at Punter? Punt returner was a disaster last season, but the question probably won't be answered until freshmen like Trovon Reed and Chris Davis get to campus.

what about the rest of the league?

Offense- Will we be able to actually teach our QB's basic fundamentals with our new QB Coach Rader. Will our young OL interior be ready. Who will step up at WR this year.

Defense
- What will our secondary look like?

Pretty much all I can think of this early

If our D will be the worst in the SEC or the worst in the nation.

Offense:

Any improvement at all from last year. I'd like to see Shepard at WR. Also, i'd like to see what Chris Garrett has to offer.

Defense:

Craig Loston. Nuff' said.

Offense Who is going to replace Dixon? How will Damien Robinson look? Will Tyler Russell be the stud Mississippi State has been waiting for?

Defense Who will be replacing Jamar Chaney at MLB? What will the new D-Coordinator's defense look like? Is 6-7 360 James Carmon any good? and will be looking forward to watch Pernell Mcphee.

Offense Pretty much the QB's. With yesterdays arrest it looks like Aaron Murray has the upper hand. I figure the offense should gel well with 10 returning starters. AJ Green.

Defense I expect the defense to show out during the Spring Game. I am looking forward to seeing everything about it, not just one or two things.

Who will play right tackle, and one of the guard spots.... and who will start in our secondary besides Barron.

LSU

Defense:
Who is going to start on the D-Line?
Is Loston going to be starting SS?
What guys step up as vocal, on-field leaders?

Offense:
Is our offensive line going to be fricking terrible like last year?
How will R. Shepard pan out as a WR?
What affect are Gonzo and Frank Wilson having on the squad?

Pretty good. I would add in for special teams "will Andrew Ritter be a decent enough place kicker" and "who will return punts for us?"

How will the kicking unit perform. (I have a feeling we are going to miss Tiffin & Fitzgerald this season.)

I think he'll be fine as our place kicker. My only worry would be the pressure at first of kicking in the SEC. Thankfully, he has a year under his belt to make the adjustments. Not saying I want the game in his hands just yet though.

Very good question. I think we see Bolden and Grandy returning kicks again this year. I'm hoping that someone else can replace Bolden because we need him in the backfield more than anything. Grandy returned a kick in the UAB game that reminded me of Mike Wallace returning kicks. Grandy needs to gain another 10 pounds though, IMHO.

Didnt Grandy return a few punts when Marshay was dropping a few at the beginning of the season?

If so I'd assume he'd be the front runner for punts and definitely KR. Maybe the best KR Ole Miss has ever had.

Offense: If we have a quarterback who can actually throw the ball accurately.

Defense: How will our defensive players adjust to new DC Manny Diaz.

Special Teams: Can we find a kickoff guy who can put the ball into the end zone instead of only making it to the 10 or 15.

Definitely. The dude looks like he could get carried off by a stiff breeze.

oops...crap. I thought he was talking about KR.

In that case, I don't know if I would want Grandy returning punts. We need someone with some great agility rather than long strides like Grandy has.

I think Enrique Davis has good potential at returning punts. I think he's elusive enough to have some good returns and big enough to break some tackles from the small "gunners"

played against him in high school (2 years ago) made a 63 yard field goal against us, then missed an extra point.

That's why he never really showed up as a good replacement for Wallace last year. He kept getting bumped off his routes by the DB's. Hell, Marshay would even do that in practice.
