Alabama obsession goes beyond just Auburn fans

Even Auburn coaches are going to spend time and resources recruiting players they do not believe they can swing from Alabama just to ruffle Saban's feathers. This I would imagine is the pathway to irrelevance. Alabama is going to take between 5-10 guys in state this year and cherry pick 8-12 guys out of state. Good luck Luper!

I spoke with an Auburn coach earlier tonight about Calloway and recruiting kids that are already committed to Bama. He told me that he will continue to drive Nick Saban and his staff up the wall by recruiting kids that are committed to Bama. He said that it will take a good bit to swing Calloway towards Auburn but you have to start somewhere and getting him on campus with his coach and dad today was a start. The Auburn coach I spoke with also said that he thought up to the last minute that they had a less than 10% shot at Region but they never gave up. He also went on to say that he gets enjoyment out of ruffling Sabans feathers so you can expect all the Auburn coaches to pursue all the recruits very heavily especially if they are committed to Alabama and Auburn wants them.
**To say the least, it was a very interesting conversation but I enjoyed it.

FWIW, I'm pretty sure most coaches and programs do this. There have been plenty of reports of Saban recruiting La. kids even though he knows they're probably LSU locks.

Why not just recruit the kid to go to your school for the sake of wanting him to go to your school? Why does Saban have to be involved?

Yeah , negative recruiting is a beautiful thing when your roster is shite. Scout and espn rated bama's higher than the barn's, so no, he did not out recruit him. Saban landed 4 out of the top 5 instate recruits in 09. Is that considered out recruited?
