If Caldwell could recruit like pokey, LSU would be like uconn.
Caldwell is a helluva game coach.

you tell me what you think I ought to do now, Cauble.
I know this isn't the context miles is referencing,
BUT
Why don't you scrap that shitheap of an offense, and run something that the QB's YOU recruited (you know, the most important position on offense) are comfortable running.
Run a spread attack that is not up tempo so you can still win that TOP battle you know and love. But just something that is more simplistic than what we currently run and more creative. Spread a D out so it gives your big time RBs space to run to rip off big plays.
It shouldn't take a NFL QB to run a college offense.

re: Do you think we'll see any progress come the spring game on the d line?
Posted by Barry Badrinath on 1/15/15 at 8:31 am
I think you are going to see a total overhaul of how we play on the Line. Just a different approach.
From what some NFL scouts have said about some of our players coming out of LSU, they were weak in regards to technique. Well, Orgeron is going to fix that. He's going to be the best DLine coach since Karl Dunbar, who was excellent.
I know a lot of people will say Jenkins, but Dunbar was awesome. Wish he would have stuck around.

Whatever happens,
I hope that LSU locks him and Frank Wilson up into long-term deals. I think they deserve the "miles clause" taken out of their contract.
ETA: Coach O personifies Louisiana as a coach in my opinion in a good way. He has his rough side, but overall just a larger than life personality/culture. Can't believe it took this long to bring him home.

re: Hiring Recruiters Rather Than Coaches

Raymond is staying DBs are going to be fine
Steele- LBs are his specialty and he's good at coaching them
Orgeron- Major upgrade as far as a coaching standpoint; I bet those DLinemen are not going to expect what's about to hit them.
It is just going to hinge on Steele putting all these great pieces into place to make a play.
And the recruiting is going to take what we've been doing on the trail, and kick it up a few notches.

Miles used the words "painful" to describe his QB play.
This is refreshing to hear Miles say that, and maybe just maybe we get this thing fixed.
The first step to any kind of change is recognizing a reason for it in the first place.

True. But if this ends up in a disaster, chip Kelly is gonna have a shite load of talent to work with in a couple years. Win win.
Either way it's gonna be entertaining.
I'm just along for the ride.

re: What makes a coach a good recruiter?
Posted by Barry Badrinath on 1/14/15 at 1:13 pm
O's reputation is he's relentless just like Saban.
Calls and checks with recruits every day. Goes to their games, talks to their parents, etc.
We lost some recruits in N. La because of one particular coach not doing this shite.
Recruits especially 18 year olds want to feel important. Ed makes them feel this way by giving them what they want: Attention.

Charlie Harbison was DB Coach, Dan Brooks was DL coach, he's still with Clemson
In your opinion,
How good of coach is Harbison? Did y'all get rid of him when you got rid of Steele? Or did he leave to take another job?
Apparently, Dan Brooks is a pretty good coach to still be there.

I remember you saying this last year when we lost Cam Robinson.
Very informative on how big recruiting has gotten from a day-to-day standpoint.

I would like to know who his position coaches were at Clemson during his time there and were they any good.
Because at most schools DCs don't get to pick their assistants. You kind of go with what you are dealt. If you have shitty position coaches, your defense is gonna be shite too.
I doubt he had as good of position coaches as Orgeron and Raymond while at Clemson, but who knows?
I was just wondering if any Clemson fans could shed some light on his DB coach or DL coach while there.

re: Bo Pelini
Posted by Barry Badrinath on 1/14/15 at 12:42 pm
Bo gets a pass here for some odd reason.
His defenses started turning to dog shite near the end of the year in '07. People give Chavis shite for mentally checking out when this bastard was putting his résumé out there and miraculously all of a sudden got the Nebraska job. Bo knew he was about to be outta here. His focus wasn't there. That's why Peyton Hillis would still be running for daylight.
frick Pelini..
