I should have put Mark Barron on my list too, but then I would have been called a homer. 89 tackles and 7 interceptions.

FWIW I think Mark Barron is a stud as well. I think by the end of the year, he could easily move into that list, or move off of it. Depending on how well/bad the secondary plays next year for Bama. A good pass rush next year can help that secondary out tremendously.

Bacarri Rambo is going have something to say about it. I would also put in Boykin from UGA. I think he will really improve after his first year starting.

The pash rush will be better than it was in 2009. Getting Dont'a Hightower back, even off a knee surgery, will be huge. Marcel Dareus is a terror off the edge. Damion Square, also coming off surgery, could make a name for himself too.

Bama won it all without 2 of it's top 3 pass rushers (Hightower/Square) for most of the season.

Patrick Peterson in 2 seasons has 93 tackles and 3 interceptions. Mark Barron had 74 tackles and 7 interceptions last season alone. Patrick Peterson was turned into toast in the bowl game against a Big Ten offense. Patrick Peterson is the most overrated player returning next season.

Well here is where you are you gotta know difference in the defensive schemes. Saban's for example opens it up to allow the DB to make plays. Chavis's however is more directed at the LB's making plays. So of course PP would have fewer picks, plus not to mention one is a SS the other is a CB.

Saban's is also a more aggressive style. While chavis is a bend, but do not break therefore giving up more yards usually. But also effective in the long run even if stats do not agree.

Why that is so difficult for many to comprehend IDK.

Same reason people hate on Cody for not putting up big time stats as a 3-4 NT?

They won't trash Cody anymore when he's a first round draft choice

Will they trash him some more when he doesn't do much in the NFL?

I don' know enough about the other teams to say who the top 5 defensive players in the SEC will be next season.

All I know about is Alabama.

Although after watching the LSU game, I'll give Perterson the nod.

So. My Picks.

Peterson
Barron
Dareus
Square
Upshaw

I honestly.... and I do mean honestly. A lot of SEC fans will be humbled by how well Cody does in the NFL. Maybe not this coming year, but at least by the next.

He's a special player, and a HUGE, HUGE reason we won it all this year. Everyone thinks he's just a fat guy.

WRONG.
