ends 230's, tackles 270's. were they designed to defense the
spread? texas's offense is one dimensional. this is gonna be
an arse kicking of epic preportions. this whooping could shape
college football for the next decade. i will be happy to eat crow

I don't know about that.....we've always used undersized guys in the front 7 and until this year, we had a very good defense every season.
Muschamp recruited those same types of guys with us. That is going to be one of his trademarks now that he runs the D and isn't under Saban's thumb.....speed....

I'm not sure where the 270s are coming from, Houston, Alexander, and Randall (the 3 most rotated DTs) are all between 290-305. Starting ends are 250-260 (Kindle and Acho).
The difference is in the LBs. The Texas LBs are much lighter than Alabama's. And yes, the D was designed to defense the spread....have you seen any Big12 football lately?

Texas d-line rotates a lot and they are heavier than the OP mentions. Stopping the run for Texas is indeed all about the d-line though. Safeties, particularly Earl Thomas, will creep up for strength in #'s if Bama has early success running.
Y'all are correct the LB's are lighter, and quicker, due to necessity in the Big 12. By the same token let's see how Bama's LB's handle covering 4 wides and RB's out of the backfield. It's a clash of styles no doubt.

It's a lack of understanding that causes certain SEC fans to bring this up as a weakness for Texas. We held their Heisman winner to 32 yards by playing the same 3 linebackers all day and they are all undersized because that has always been our philosophy and Chizik's.....
Speed is important. If you used larger linebackers, you would need to be in a 3-4 to have an extra guy to cover the same ground that 3 could if their strength was speed.
I don't look at the size of Texas' defense as a negative for them. You guys may get blown out anyway, but it won't be because of an extra 20 pounds......

I'm optimistic because of how we played Florida, but I haven't seen Texas this year and I remember what Utah did with a similar offense.

Yeah. And?
That's what Saban does: crowd the line and sell out to stop the run....it's called sound strategy against a good running team.
We were outmanned, but did well by outcoaching alabama. Doing things they hadn't seen before......Player numbers are why we lost.
